Clearly you dont have technical knowledge.Laying of rail tracks has not changed over the years ,what has changed is the use of wider gauge rail tracks but Ghana has its standardised gauge. In certain advanced nations the tracks have sensors in them to feed a rail track management system which we are far from deploying. That system involves the deployment of electronics engineers we have in abundance.Such engineers don't have skills in laying rail tracks neither do they have skills in repairing and driving a locomotive.

Does the govt not have plans to expand railways?haven't we heard of even talking railways to Yendi and even Burkina faso ,so why this plan to resize. So when the expansions begin who does the work?.I have been a victimof this,GT went through the same rationalisation exercise back in 1995 when i joined the then P&T.Investors upon investors came in till vodafone came and decided to lay off even engineers who had been trained at great cost by GT and even they vodafone themselves at great cost on the very equipment vodafone is using today and Q of service today is nothing to write home about. They are covering up their inefficiencieis with marketing giommicks and also buying media houses by sponsoring all discussioon programs on air. This way they cannot be discussed. Some of us had to leave because there was this hatred for we the GT staff, today we are doing well in better organisation because we were given godd training at GT.I worked with vodafone for 2 years and truth is they are not what they portray themselves to be.The people there are not from vodafone, they are just suppliers and retired army officers who had some relationship with vodafone so their practice is different from vodafone UK.They are just using the name of vodafone as a front, this is how cheap we have sold our national assets to the devil.Today vodafone uses official vehicles that are leased.Magna Transport a few weeks back was seizing all the Nissan pick up vehicles leased the company for non payment, something never experienced during the GT days because we owned all the vehicles and the early days of Vodafone i.e 2007 to early 2009.All is not well there,we know their challenges and its just a matter of time when it explodes in our faces. The painful thing is the damage would be so colossal no one will be willing to buy that network cos the liabilities will exceed every asset and prospects they have. If we intend expanding railways lets keep these guys because they know how to lay tracks and maintain them. You don't get those skills anywhere on the open labour market, unless we plan bringing in Chinese or Indians to lay our railway tracks.

African politicians could promise Heaven and Hell before elections but forget completely about the promise after winning the elections.
Somebody promised that should his party wins election or power to rule the country, he would relocate Suame Magazine from its current premises. Being an old man born in a village around that area, i knew the politician was not being truthful or sincere to his audience. I even said to myself that it was not possible as there was no empty land close to Kumasi City council area.
I have to end. God bless.

Place high priority on expanding the railway system to connect the south and the north. It will transform Ghana's economy overnight. Efficient railway system is more important than building airports.

Essikadu needs to be pulled down and a new township built in its place. The whole of Essikadu is poor, very run down and not even fit for vagrants.

Honourable Darko-Mensah, why wait till now to speak out on the railways?
Why have your fellow MPs in the Western region not been speaking out?
The railways have suffered neglect at the hands of successive administrations. Your own NPP ignored the railways for the 8 years you were in power. Your administration chose to squander foreign loans on Ghana@50 and the Jubilee Complex instead of rehabilitating the railway system. You and your fellow NPP MPs supported this scandalous abuse of resources on frivolity while the railway system went to the dogs.
Are you now speaking up for the railway workers threatened with retrenchment for fear of losing votes?
What is required is concerted action by all MPs in the Western region, civic leaders, chiefs, religious leaders, the regional administration, assemblies and prominent personalities to lobby the government about rehabilitating the railway system.
Promises have been made in vain. Let us see action now! It is in the vital interests of the national and local economies.
