People have no power so, what is the sense of increasing tariff? If you do not live in an apartment or a house, how do you pay rent? Our leaders are insensitive and careless about the plight of the ordinary.

I agree perfectly with him, let government and all stark holders listen very to what this man has said, the theft and injustices are too much now in our Ghanaian society. let all consumers understand this simple message from Wereko-Brobby and stand for your rights. You cannot pay more for what you have not consumed, it is not done! if all, they rather have to reduce their tariffs for not delivering what they have been paid to deliver!

Actually Ghanaian consumer pays less for electricity compared to other consumers in the sub-region. On the average a consumer in Ghana pays around 15pes/kwh(8cents/kwh) for electricity while consumers in the US pays around 10-13 cents/kwh. Remember also that the actual price of bulk electricity is far cheaper than what is being paid by the average consumer. Cost of generation in the US is far cheaper than in Ghana. They rely on nuclear , coal and very cheap gas from Trinidad. On the other hand Ghana current generation mix includes about 45% from thermal generation using crude oil (about 140% more expensive than gas). Admittedly the quality of service in the US is far better than Ghana but the bottom line is tariffs in the world over are set based on economics not on quality of the service. The quality is taken care of when the energy market is deregulated like the telcos. Many consumers are demanding better service before the pay more, VRA is saying that they cannot support the current poor service on the tariff been paid. So sustainability of the poor service on higher tariff or no service at all. Make your pick!!! using the current trend of 45% thermal and 55% hydro. assuming hydro is free (wild assumption) current operation on thermal is around 30 US cents/kwh on FUEL ONLY. IF U calculate the cumulative average it around 13.5cents/kwh taken hydro component as zero. currently VRA sells it power to ECG at 4cents/kwh. so do the maths. U think this can be sustained??

I hope all the 'players' involved in this energy debate or debacle can now understand the issues:Supply sufficient electric power, when and where it is needed;and the sky will be the limit as far as tariff increases are concerned!
The VRA,courtesy of our first President, the Osagyefo Dr. Nkrumah,is now humongous business conglomerate - sitting on vast acres of land;real estate(housing units);physical infrastructure(dams, power machines);as well as an unquantifiable array of human and intellectual property(volumes of test studies already paid for)!
Those running the organization should get off their high horse, and leverage some of these assets to the benefit of Ghana and our sister countries within our sub-region.

What legacy did you leave behind for VRA as the former CEO? Wereko, you should be in jail if it were Canada or US for using your office to amass wealth on the Ghana Jubilee fund. Shame on you. Power is never cheap any where in Europe, US or Canada. Utility companies increase tariffs in US before the consent of the Energy Regulatory commission is sought. Consumers and all companies relying on energy must pay the going rate in the market. However, it is up to the utility companies to make concession rates to the needy and those who are can not afford. Shame on you lousy mouth Wereko-Broobey.

The consumer is the first point of call when it comes to the the resolution of electricity power matters.
The time has come for consumers to demand their fair share of the national cake. We have allowed the politicians to take the juicy part of the national cake without hesitation. The Ghanaian consumer is too docile. It is only few people who are speaking for us. Why? Dont we know our rights? Those who have elected to lead have also been bought and silenced in the process of demanding the right thing.
If things continue this way, our leaders should gird their cloth around their waste for hectic times ahead, whether they like it or not. Some of us will continue to fight the system and ensure the right things are done
