Financial Consultant indeed. Ask yourself why people falsify documents in the first place. Our gov want people to cheat so people cheat. Have you ever cleared an item at customs? The charges are EVER changing so that today you go to clear say a machine and the officer tells you it is 2cedis tomorrow they say it is 4cedis next day they say it is 6cedis. The price changes every time you bring in a new machine. What do you do as a business owner? You falsify documents to make sure that you don't go out of business. If the gov is serious about making money then they should make it easy for everyone to pay their fair share and be consistent. I will not go out of business because the gov refuse to do its work. A simple web site or database listing exact charges of various items can resolve this issue in a heartbeat. K4 started it for car imports but it has not been updated for years. We need a better system that removes the human element of customs officers. Akpabey stop the nonsense and attack the root cause of the problem first. The issue is not Destination Inspection Companies or the Ghanaian trying to build a business.

Akpabey must ubnderstand and admit that it is the making of the Ghana Government itself, who by way of overcharging importers especially vehicles, that culminates in the over invoicing or under invoicing. How on earth a small car of 11 years old that was bought for an amount of Euros 1,300 can attract a duty in Ghana for 4,200 GHCor 42,000 Old Ghana Cedis which eqautes to about Euros 1,500. I remember very well when the President John Mahama then the Vice President on in the USA and met the Ghanaian Community in New York, this over taxing or should I say Government stealing her own citizens by way imposing sky rocketing Customs duty ocar was brought to his attendtion. We are yet to see what he has done about it.
Let's face the fact - It is the Government who is encouraging these people to under declare of over declare the value of their goods. Dod bite dog no blood.

It is all frustrating and the authorities will not listen. The people's cry must be heard to avoid importers creating fraudulent means of clearing theri goods. Minister of Finance, pls your budget will not balance because the state institutions under your supervision lack the system, procedures and process to collect the states monies. I think it is time to stop sending cars and stuff to Ghana, After all its not worth am speaking from my heart based on personal experience I later end up leaving three of my SUVs at the port. It is so painful. How can someone stuggle through the snow bringing the items for stupid port officials to take everything that you have toiled for years on someones land. I hate all of them from the so call stupid agents to the custom officials. I think its better to buy a good house here have a comfortable life here with your family. Thinking about people or relatives back home is not important anymore after they are not satisfied with whatever you do for them. Ghana is no more our motherland anymore. Its full of armed robbers, hatred and insults. A lots of people lliving in the western world have advised themselves. God is gonna punish both the agents and the criminal port officials for taking our sweart because of excessive or cut throat duties on goods sent to ghana.

For a car that was bought for say $2000, the duty will run anywhere from $3000 to $4500, now tell me who does such policies hurt? The importer or the consumer? News conferences that wreak of jealousy should not even be published on Ghanaweb. When governments like the ndc increase taxes and erode the purchasing ower of the ordinary Ghanaian, the Ghanaian finds ways of surviving this is very simple.
How does one expect the ordinary people to survive when the president and his appointees have their salaries and other allowances increased by more than 100%, have increased taxes, have increased the prices of petroleum products and gas by 50% ?
Until the politicians stop stealing the ordinary people will also do anything to survive.
This is the crux of the matter.
If the politicians decide to be fair and begin to think about the nation and stop stealing and grabbing the nation's wealth for themselves then sanity will begin to prevail.

What Akpabey should say rather is 90% of government workers are fake and unproductive because they earn money without doing very little at work.

Does Akpabey understand the business at the ports and why Ghana Ports and harbour need to keep its wages to improve infrastructure, expand the ports to make it competitive instead giving up all revenues for government workers to use as pay?

How come these institutions cannot render some public services to earn money to at least cater for its staff? We have statitics dept for example that cannot see the need to gather valuable info such as data on farmers to sell to say agric tools or fertilizer manufacturers etc. Or even the health sector etc? What kind of stupidity is this?

the system is rotten and it took years. any quick-acid solution may prove fatal.those who have been at the helm of affairs are all in the country except mills,they have the solution. after all what makes the difference between demo and dic. if we have the same problems, then better dic.(accountability) they must be held resp for their various periods and implementations. the fact is : go to europe and toil, we are the ultimate beneficiaries- want it or not. go on campaigns as politicians, we are the civil servants and at the stroke of a pen, i am the ultimate benefactor. have you seen custom officers, police, bureaucrates going on strike? are they better paid than the teachers, i doubt. rawlings brought in a guy from america who messed up customs, and my dear rawlings wiped him off. so let them come out, govt after govt and trace periods.and there we can trace the real culprits. mills is not a custom officer, elegant atenga neither, i doubt those at the top of these insti are aliens from another planets. the problem is with us monkeys. it is only monkeys who get satisfied with a hug, insults and bla bla... after mandela has done this he retired, not that he changed the people only God has this capacity, but today SA is accountability, and relatively doing better. atenga is not a revenue collector? this crime does not date from his election. dear monkey experts we need you but never give comments that may undermine any sitting govt. even a learned gh is always a monkey for monkeys can never remain neutral. experts elsewhere analyse and suggest solutions period.

It takes every Ghanaian to be responsible where ever we find ourselves serving the country to redeem the nation. President alone can not do it, let's fight all bad practices individually and as a group. It's very sad.

We need a radical solutions to solve our import duty systems which is based on PNDC LAW over 30 years ago. When Kufour came he didn't do anything about that and the NDC Criminals have salvaged the entire port system which is detrimental to the development of the economy. In the UK for instance, anything that brings money to the nation is taken seriously and the consequence of tax evasion enormous. Ghana President be wise. Listen to the cry of your people and govern the nation with integrity.
