The right to information bill is very critical to the advancement of very good democratic governance. However, this bill has been lingering for a long time without it's passge. The NDC gov't promised to pass it, but we are still waiting for this pormise to be fulfilled. The leadership need to demonstrate a very strong committment to address the canker of corruption which has been a very very strong singular factor in thwarting many an African country's, Ghana inclusive, efforts are sustainable development and growth. We applaud all efforts at strengthening our institutions and also, putting in place the requisite legislative framework and policies which are enforceable and applicable to the letter. Corruption in Ghana under the NDC has been taken to new heights with various sums of monies doled out to cronies and political financiers under very false and fraudulent ciscumstances, with the average Ghanaian, being the ultimate loser in all these acts of fraudulent impunity.

In the United Kingdom in 2011 the government lost 36 billion pounds through corruption. Of this amount 26 billion loss was in the public sector alone. This goes to show that corruption is a very big problem for governments all over the world and that the public sector is the most guilty. What is most needed is governments ability to put in place as qiuckly as possible systems to stop such corrupt practices. This is where governments in africa are found wanting.Robust systems must be in place to stop corruption and those found guilty of it must be severely punished.Governments must also encourage their citizens to report public servants whose lifestyles are far above their wages and such whistleblowers should be rewarded.A rich country like Britain is relentlessly fighting corruption in the public sectors with all the tools at its disposal.Should poor Ghana take corruption in the public sector less seriously?

Freedom of Information bill is still languishing in Parliament in Ghana. What are we doing about that? There is need to be a modest beginning in the fight against corruption and the FOI bill is a good start. It is astonishing to observe how government officials whom you know , all of a sudden, are owners of fleet of cars, houses and businesses. And you ask yourself, how the hell did s/he make it? We need to stop paying lip-service and get to action. How many officials have been reprimanded on corrupt charges? Does that suggest we do not have corrupt officials in Ghana?

Obviously the above statement sums up Ghana and Africa's problem.
If the head of government is corrupt, then tell me how you expect the rest to be? Yes they too will be corrupt.
Unless Ghana changes her ways in regards to corruption, we will forver remain poor.
Think about freedom of information law, no government want to pass it, just ask why?, and you have the answer.

Corruption and or parallel underground economic activities like the black market exchange system is here to stay and will never be eliminated in Africa especially in Sub-Sahara African nations.
While this reported amount is more than the budgets of 60 percent of African nations, it is the high probability that 90% of the said amount is in safe keeping in foreign banks and financial institutions that bothers me and not the fact that the money is either missing or misappropriated. Here is the deal, as long as the money is spent in African or allowed to circulate in African banks, these banks are likely to have the resources to grant loans for private developments. It is the fact that we are too stupid but quick to hide our loot in foreign nations a sure sign of our misunderstanding of banking and finance 101 that irks me. These days some in Ghana do hide their money in South African Banks when our lessons should tell us we are just confirming what South Africa apartheid system did conclude about black people and their intellectual capacities. Yes the majority blacks are in charge in South Africa but they are just caretakers of systems that are still wholly or mostly owned by the white minority. Money is not lost if it circulates in each country where the money was destined by design and not what our brain dead leaders do with their loot.
