ALHAJI is the Muslim equivalent of a Doctoral Degree. When u tell Ghana's Muslims that, like the white man, Arabs enslaved and do not respect Black people, they get angry.
Myths die hard.

A shy guy goes into a bar and sees a beautiful woman sitting at the bar. After an hour of gathering up his courage, he finally goes over to her and asks tentatively. "Would you mind if I chatted with you for a while?"
To which she responds by yelling, at the top of her lungs, "No, I won't sleep with you tonight!"
Everyone in the bar is now staring at them. Naturally, the guy is hopelessly and completely embarrassed and he slinks back to his table. After a few minutes, the woman walks over to him and apologizes. She smiles at him and says, "I'm sorry if I embarrassed you. You see, I'm a journalist and I've got an assignment to study how people respond to embarrassing situations."
To which he responds, at the top of his lungs, "What do you mean $200?"

On the subject of displaying "academic pomposity" in public and in print I can only say that it is only an accident of history and location that some of our country men have not or cannot attain high educational level. I have sat under the village tree and listened to wisdom, native wisdom come out the mouths of our illiterate brethren much more than I H]hear from some of our politicians.

As for academic titles, Ghanaians flaunt them because there is a growing middle class that still thinks academic titles eventually bolster one's societal image, lead to larger income and a life of great comfort....the Ghanaian press is ill-prepared to deal with its many challenges...the training is not vigorous and the rewards less attractive...so expect more of the same
