No wonder! In fact, we have not seen anything yet. In the next couple of years, we are going to import cocoa, maybe, cassava, plantain and the rest. We will rather starting growing Chinese food stuffs here in Ghana. We will have no option than to either eat the Chinese food or die of hunger. This is because we have giving Ghana to the Chinese for a few RMB not dollars. The timber industry have also been taken over by our second rulers - the Chinese. Aaaahhh.. Ghana! Hmmmmmmmm.. ns3m pii..

It is equally sad that the publisher of this article did not identify himself. He is no doubt ignorant as he describes the use of timber to make decks, panels and flooring. Has he heard of plastic lumber? "the wide range of timber species suitable for the architectural industry". Mr. Publisher, do your research properly before making such reckless statements. Ghana can create a whole tourist industry and jobs from it's rich forest reserves. Scientists all over the world can be invited to study the forests and its rich contents. We have no idea what we destroy when bulldozers clear everything in their path to cart the lumber out of the forests. There could have been medicinal herbs to cure cancer or other dreadful illnesses. Why are we so much dependent on our natural resources? What will happen when they finish? Why are we not thinking of generations to come? Did the minister of natural resources think about that? Why can't we innovate?

Such a shame we have to do this as a nation. I can not wait until I get to Ghana and provide sweeping change. It's so sad to see these incompetent "leaders" destroying such a jem!

It is unfortunate we know how to only reap and not sowing. We harvest the timber without thinking of any tree planting in replacement. We sold all the timber to a country (Germany)who has no need of timber but decide to buy from Ghana with the intention of selling them back to us at higher price. Worst of all, we have sold all our timber lands to Chinese illegal galamsey operators. Where lies the future of our mother Ghana. Posterity will judge the leaders of this nation. God help us all.

I can believe why Ghana keep on export timble at cheaper price and to import timble at higher price in to the country. The solution is to stop exporting timber and start reaforestation.

Please Mr. President, put in place a policy whereby any company that fells any tree has to replant in its place immediately to recover reforestation.
It will also help in the reduction of carbon dioxide or climate change.
