The bare truth behind the purported increment in the fuel price is to socialise the living standard of the upper class in the country and not informed by any economic reality.

We were in this country when President Mahama increased the salary/emoluments of both the legislature and the executive close to 100% from what the late president Mills was paying the two arms of government.We also saw president Mahama going on a spending spree during the just ended elections including our respected nananoms and torgbes receiving cars and other inducement which they claim they really deserved.As if those were not enough,each of the elected member of parliament received 50,000 US dollars for accommodation and the simple question is how does our fragile economy be able to contain all the afforementioned expenditures and many others that were not in public domain?

On the issue of fuel subsidy,why did the acting governor of Bank of Ghana,Dr.Henry Kofi Wampah not come to refute the notion created in the national media that the government does not pay a dime on fuel subsidy but still uses the same non-existent subsidy to argue for petroleum increment.

Mr president, I say close the tax loopholes in the country to offset the economic disparities if any,like the $80 million gold scam that left our shores without proper documentation let alone paying the correct taxes and dont try to socialized your outlandish lifestyle.

The country does not belong to the executive and the legislature.J F Kenedy once said which I am para-phrasing here that,"Any society that connot protect it's have-nots(poor) such society cannot guarantee the safety of the haves(rich)"

Pratt even recommended Baako to be killed by the regime, thank God Baako was instead touchered violently and severely but his life was spared. This is what Kwesi Pratt can do. Now Pratt is a secret agent to NDC and US Embassy in Ghana. May God forgive Pratt and spare him the untold evils that will come upon him and his generations. The souls of those journalist killed through Pratt's recommendations to PNDC will never forgive Pratt. He claimed he wanted to stop corruption. I bet JJR would have killed Nkrumah if he had come to meet him because corruption under Nkrumah and the one party dictatorship would have been the reason. Independence alone doesn't make one a saint.

In our political history the most violent of all has been the AFRC/PNDC /NDC and all the leaders are still around but NPP is not UP.

It will be irresponsible and lack of deep thought for the government to continue to subsidise a product which price keeps going up, primarily, and it has no control of. Can that be sustained? I think no!

The money which is going to be used to subsidise petroleum this year - over "GHc.2.4billion", thus, "12per cent of government revenue" - is untenable. That amount can better be used by the government to build our roads, railways, hospitals, schools, improve agriculture, electricity, water, upgrade the two harbours, etc. - these are undertakings which create jobs and have greater impact on the lives of the general public, unlike subsidy on petroleum which benefits mostly the urban rich.

My respose:What is the guarantee that the government will use the 2.4 billion GHc for the projects you mentioned.Is this the first time we are hearing about those lousy ideas which never see the light of day.Government in government out we hear the same story to build hospitals,roads,railways,electricity sea ports and many more but we are where we are.

How realistic are you that,the GHc2.4 billion can solved all the projects you mentioned above.Having any government since Ghana returns to democracy in 1992 contracted loans worth GHc2.4 billion?.The South Koreans were prepared to give us $10 billion for afordable housing alone that is why I find your GHc2.4 billion doing all the projects above as unrealistic.

The way forward though,is to keep this subsidy in order to cushion the vanurable in the society while sourcing moneys from international community for the projects you high lighted which will create the needed jobs to migrate sufficient number of people from the poverty line before doing away with the subsidy.

One of the advantages of the subsidy on the economy is lt leaves money the pocket of the general populace who then buy product manufactured by our industries.If you take away this money from the general populace be rest asured that manufacture will be directly impacted since there will not be money for buying.

When we chose socialism over western style capitalism with its free market economy during the latter part of the 1950s the meager salaries paid workers necessitated the subsidising of goods and services by the government. Wages and salaries have stagnated over the years and any attempt to remove the subsidy on fuel will result in the instant skyrocketing of prices and the pauperization and dehumanization of almost all ghanaians . Millions of ghanaians are already living below the poverty line and such a change in the status quo would be catastrophic.Removing the safety net for the poor to save an ailing economy is like sending the poor to a nazi concentration camp .Who needs the weight-loss program most, the already impoverished and emaciated or the fat and well fed? Let's begin with the fat cats and sacred cows who're living off the fat of the land and recently gave themselves pay hikes without the people's approval. How about paying the do nothing parliamentarians, ministers and their deputies,the comatose council of state members,sour mouthed presidential staffers, district/municipal/metropolitan chief executives,etc. minimum wage without the benefits and firing all party apparatchiks and hangers on who draw fat salaries for just barking out loud? The president must lead by example and show the suffering ghanaian he's willing to share in their burdens by slashing his pay by half and live modestly.This would be a better way to start. And if the fat cows and sacred cows find out their sacrifices are not enough to stimulate the ailing and over-burdened economy then they can come back and do the "ku me preko" on their emaciated compatriots.
It's time for the president and his cabinet and other appointees to present their stewardship report to the people of Ghana who own the wealth and other resources of the land.We need to know how much money we're making from our gold and diamonds resources and the recently found oil and how we're spending our money? We have a right to know how much money they've borrowed in our name and how they have spent and are spending those amounts.We have to hold the NDC to their own much trumpeted values of probity. transparency and accountability.Or were they weaving a tangled web when they were first practising to deceive?" THE ABOVE DEFINITION PERFECTLY SUMS UP THE CURRENT SOCIO-ECONOMIC STATUS OF THE REPUBLIC OF GHANA, a country richly endowed by THE ALMIGHTY GOD with vast quantities of limitless natural resources, yet the leadership continue to globe-trot begging every Tom, Dick and Harry for loans, grants and what have you, ostensibly to fund "development projects", INCLUDING THE ELUSIVE K-VIP PUBLIC TOILETS AND GHANA@50 CELEBRATIONS, amongst many others.

Yesterday, I listened on CNN to Joyce Aryee, the Ex-CEO of Ashanti Goldfields, struggling with her "Ga-accent brofo" to explain the dynamics of macro-economics to a young clever CNN journalist.

Realising that poor old Joyce Aryee was struggling with Ghana's official language - english, the CNN journalist quickly cut off the interview.

Oh, what a shame!!

These are the very people Ghanaians call honourable "leaders". "LEADERS" who can hardly express themselves in the GLOBAL LANGUAGE FOR INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS - ENGLISH, let alone making a strong intelligent point in macro-economics.

I WONDER WHAT STANDARD OF ENGLISH GHANA'S LEADERS SPEAK WHEN NEGOTIATION MULTI-MILLION DOLLAR DEALS ON BEHALF OF GHANA.

NO WONDER KUFUOR WAS KOWTOWED INTO ACCEPTING A DERISORY 10% OF GHANA'S SHARE OF THE CRUDE OIL IN OUR SUB-SOIL, AND AGREEING TO LIFT OUR USELESS SHARE ABROAD FOR REFINING IN THE PRESENCE OF TEMA OIL REFINERY CRYING OUT FOR A RETRO-FIT AND EXPANSION TO REFINE THE ENTIRE CRUDE OIL.

Indeed, Ghana will continue to have a long way to go with this low calibre of leadership controlling the affairs of poor old Ghana.
