Accident indicates the recklessness of our articulator truck drivers and the lax enforcement of traffic regulations in Ghana...as for the reporter at citifmonline, please, a truck does not somersault....in accidents of this nature, simply write, the truck rolled over, or fell on its side....somersault is too far-fetched a word to use in this instance.....

Hi Ghana,
This information is worthy of noting and serious action taken on it by all and sundry since the disragerd for basic traffic rules leads to fatalities or even death.
I am a motor rider who use the city's roads for various assignments. I have taken time to study how some dirvers, especially the commercial drivers contravene basic traffic regulations and these are some of my findings.
1. Most cars (private and commercial) do not have functioning break lights. I had to caution as many as eight drivers on the by-pass from Fiesta Royale Hotel to GIMPA junction one evening in traffic. All 8 did not have any of the break lights working. As many as 25 cars had only one of the two break lights working. This calls for Police Intervention.
2. In recent times, drivers have decided not to indicate with thier traficator lights when they intend to turn onto another road. You ride behind a vehicle and all you see is the dirver turning into an ajooining road without indication. Police, please be up and doing.
3. On the N1 (George Bush Highway) drivers disregard the use of the rear view mirrors. What I gathered within a spate of 10 mins on the stretch from La Paz traffic light to Awoshie Junction was terrifying. Drivers overspeed when the traffic lights show green and just swerve into other lanes without using their rear view mirriors disregarding which ever vehicle is behind on the other lane. This has resulted in a series of accidents.
4. Designated bus stops on the newly constructed roads have gone unused in some places. Drivers choose to park on the roads as agianst using the spaces created for the alighting and picking of passengers. Taxi drivers have therefore turned those stops into their car parks to load passengers. A good example is areas around the Accra Mall and at 37 opposite the Maxmart and the Police Church.
4. Crossing of RED traffic lights is no more an offence in Ghana. People cross the red lights as if that means one should speed instead of stop. The culprits involved are mostly commercial drivers who will even go to the extent of honking behind you if you dare stop when the lights show yellow. Some even insult you for wasting their time. A taxi nearly run over me on the motor bike because I stopped when it showed yellow.
Countrymen, if these things go unchecked, the carnage on the raods will keep increasing year after year. I am appealing to all to take this issues seriously since it may affect all of us one way or the other.
Blessed.

For a semi- trailer is just not possible for it to somersault !!!
What happens is that such trucks do roll-over from a jack-knife position.

Wrong choice of word. The truck did not somersault, it either flipped over, overturned, or turned over. I hope investigations will reveal how this accident occurred.

INFACT WE MUST BLAME POLICE FOR SOME OF THESE TRAFFIC OFFENCES, THE POLICE MUST BE ON THE ROADS NOT SITTING IN THEIR OFFICES.
