I hope this is not another STX hoax or an NDC empty propaganda to give jobs to my adorable brothers and sisters in the Volta especially at Keta where I knew before the unfortunate sea erosion took place.
My question is if this is possible where were all these Volta politicians like Tsatu Tsikata who has been the Boss of GNPC longer than any Ghanaian, brought in Cuban experts for salt exploration and the others who have been in higher ministerial and national positions for their people who have stood solidly behind them all these while?
What did they made use of all the political and economic opportunities whilst their own region and people suffer in abject poverty and untold social economic hardships and have to migrate hugely to Accra and Kumasi for their economic survivals when the whole Volta region is infact very-very rich in resources?
Come on, let this not be a failure and the usual unnecessary political publicity fan fairs like did happen to the failed STX deal.

It gets curioser and curioser. It is the same story with a different slant. Now, it is the govt that is setting up the project with Zoomlion. The greedy bastards have certainly got their hands on our jugular and those who are welcoming them with "open arms" have urgent questions to answer, and answer properly and quickly, before we declare them as enemies of the people. I had already written elsewhere that the govt must be in charge of the project in other to protect us from private filibusters, so this is not an attempt to thwart the project. But right now, there is no sign sign at all to declare them (those in charge) as saviours of our people!
How could they plot all along this project in secret and then unfold it on us like this? What impact studies have been made? What about the consultations with those to be severely impacted for forever? We want full disclosure!
Yes, it has received the "blessing" of the impostor Agboba, but that is illegitimate. We've said a long time ago that that was their plan anyway, except that some of us were not convinced to support them, in spite of the billions of $$s being dangled about as proceeds, since individual greed of the greedy bastards was thumb-printed all over it! We know their long term plans and that's why we are opposed to them installing one of their own, an impostor to boot, as Awoamefia. As a brother once said, and I jocularly agreed with him, if even Nyonyo were indeed a member of the family, we'd have supported him to be the Awoamefia, since he is a wheeling-dealing rogue par excellence to march any filibuster one can point at who knows how to bring the pork home and spread the booty! Even Kufuor found out that and dumped his friend Raymond Okudzeto for him for their oil deals! That's why Raymond hates the very ground Nyonyo steps on! Phew! Does knowing those things make me an accessory to the fact and therefore culpable too.:-) Ok. I am ready to turn state witness for a lesser sentence! But nobody should try to use that Atsito gbor (goat), trokosi logic on me, I beg! We didn't keep those things secret all this time. B'cos we were revealing them to the public they started making those who attend their clandestine meetings to swear oaths not to reveal anything, thereby putting stress and pressure on our informers and we have to respect their feelings.
If I recollect correctly, the Kufuor regime passed some legislation which would have made it possible for the govt to sequester the Keta lagoon for the project, had they succeeded in imposing Nyonyo on us. Salt was also mentioned as among the minerals the state has rights over but since the salt deposits in the Keta lagoon only happen naturally occasionally on a large scale, except at a small portion near Kedzi/Adina, we were debating if the Keta lagoon could also fall within the grabbing zone of the greedy bastards in Accra. It appears they have decided it could, with the assistance of their accomplices but some of us shall mount a challenge anyway.
Let us face the facts: these our so-called Anlo/Ewe leaders, both traditional and the politicians, are mostly just jerks, utterly bankrupt morally and intellectually, and no sense of empathy for our people and region. The mentality of many of them is akin to some of our ancestors who willingly joined in enslaving fellow Ewes to sell down the Volta river and turned the whole of Eweland, from Ada to Gbadagli in Nigeria, into the Slave Coast. Yes, just as Awoamefia Kofi Anyage of the Bate Clan, later dubbed Fiayidzehe, who even conspired to steal and sell even his own Anlo people at Anexo, where the mother came from. Today, it is the morally bankrupt Agboba and the unprincipled, double-crossing, weak-kneaded and cowardly Awadada of Anlo, ably assisted by some Anlos ("Anlo Mafia," as they have already been dubbed?) who are selling us down the river again, and some ignoramuses without a clue as to what is happening think we are in for good times! When are you guys going to wake up from your slumber and see that our houses are on fire?
BTW, to your qs if all that was possible, why didn't Rawlings, Tsatsu Tsikata and and the Dzelukope Mafia do it when they had state power in their hands, simple answer is they had no vision like that. Tsatsu was busy, btw, grabbing the Songhor lagoon and creating more problems there. In the long run, the people of the area do just what they like, helping themselves to the salt deposits beyond the areas they were allocated, amidst the occasional fracas and shootings.

KojoT: Am with you. My fear is that the people of the area will see nothing in terms of benefits, most of all the degradation of the area.
The lagoon, a valuable natural fish producing area, rather need development for production of abundant fish instead of SALT. Fish from this lagoon used to reach every corner of the country. I and some others are seriously discussing feasible and viable plans of improving and developing the lagoon into a commercial fishing area. We are seeking more people to participate and get involved in the discussion. This not only crucial for rejuvenating the fishing industry, but also generating employment and livelihood of the people.

Kojo T,
I am not being emotional at all. I am just sounding the alarm bells, obviously knowing more than you. The lands along the lagoon littoral are not private lands. They are at best clan lands and so in that respect communal. I am aware though that our common Torgbuiga T was able to grab a lot of such lands all over Anlo for himself but they still belong to the whole T family, except those shared out.
As you know, the land along the lagoon littoral is flooded during the fishing season, becoming fish spawning and fishing ground for all and sundry, not only those who claim them as their own, because they are adjacent to their farms or dwelling places. What does their impact study say about building salt pans on such lands adjacent to the lagoon proper? In case, they can't use all that land for salt pans, as land is needed to build the infrastructure to salt industry.
Definitely the salt pans would have to extend into the lagoon proper, which don't belong to anybody, as it is communal property. What compensation are they paying and to whom?
Some of us have considered this salt industry for long. We don't want an enclave economy based on salt winning which leaves the local people even more impoverished just like has happened in the diamond, gold and oil mining areas all over Africa, while foreigners and their local henchmen milk millions to save in foreign banks. That is our beef!

"He added that the salt could be converted into caustic soda for aluminum production and assured that all risk assessments had been carried out and therefore the project would not affect the livelihood of the people."
Now, let nobody tell me it is a faus pas or a gaffe! Plainly said, what they have planned to do "would not affect the livelihood of the people", which means, it won't change anything for them from their present abject existence eking out a living from the lagoon and farming on the poor salty land along the adjoining land!
You don't have to cross or go to Ada to ask them about their woes when Vacuum Salts double dealt to grab the Songhor Lagoon. You can read all about it on the Internet. Even C.O.C. Amate who dubiously led the assault on his own people on behalf Vacuum Salts and signed off the lagoon had become a chief campaigner against Vacuum Salts.
And go to the diamond and gold mining areas to find out if the billions extracted for over a 100 years have changed the livelihood of the mass of the people. Galamsey is doing more for the people than all the foreign companies put back in the community.
Yes, some of us have a wholistic agenda in our minds, which will directly impact positively the livelihood of the people as active participants and beneficiaries. They said what their plan will do: it won't change anybody's livelihood! Don't say you haven't been warned!

What do u have to offer to your people beside your daily negative nonsense? When was the last time u visited the Keta area? The only industry out there is fishing and there is no fish to catch these days. The fishes in the sea are wiser since the method used by the local folks are old and the fishes have learnto stay away. The only viable option to bring job to the area at the moment is the salt industry and i wish them all the best. Since u don't have anything to offer to your people i suggest you shove your negative nonsense up in your asss and let the people who live in the area take their chances with the salt industry.

I have been a member of the North Anlo Development Association which is made up of the citizens of Avenorkofe, Atsiafi, Bayive, Hatorgodo, Agorvinu, Afaflakpota and Devenu, Trekume and Mamime, Tregui and Adzato.
I have read the Waputi project which I stated the other time is to drag the Avu Lagoon (the Avu Lagoon is a large fresh water with trees and grass growing on it). You can clear the green on the lagoon and use the bottom as a football field. Thus the problem with the Avu and Tordzi which has no silting, but has the outlets into the Keta Lagoon is silting, which must be cleared.
The dragging of the Avu basin must create dams for communities from Dabala to Atsiavi, ending just before the Nuyi enters the lagoon and Alakple in the same manner. This will prevent the dying up of the rivers every year and to enable fish to populate them. The Ministry of Agriculture must as a matter of fact populate the rivers with fish. There must also be fish farming and the dams should be used to irrigate sugarcane and vegetable farms. The northern part of the lagoon is where the River Aka enters it which is not large as the Nuyi and Avu and its outlets. That is the area around Afife (were rice is cultivated), Agbozume and Denu. It is the area around Agbozume and Denu that is used for salt winning, thus the river Aka must be diverted from after Afife to Anyako. The land around Agozume and Denu can then be elevated and turned into salt pans (of course with consultation with the natives of the area). The fact is that salt winning will be profitable for the companies involved in it, but not all the people living around the Avu and Keta Lagoon. It is on record that Keta itself is a small strip of land and the land along the lagoon is used for the cultivation of onions. On the other side is the Atlantic Ocean. Fishing will be the most profitable venture for the people along the outlets of the Avu to the lagoon, since even those who do not have lands can get into agreement with landowners to do fish farming on their portion of the land that is covered by the river for a fee. The creation of a large water reservoir near Tsigene can be used to irrigate the land from Abor to Avenorfeme.
But such Huge Salt Industry that does not take into consideration the lively-hood of the people living upstream the Keta Lagoon is a precept for disaster.

The list can go on and on and I know you are aware of this, so no need pointing fingers at just one tribe. The fact of the matter is that we are all Ghanaians no matter what one's tribe is and we must learn to respect each other's tribe, language and culture. It must be realised that it is the variation in culture, tribe etc that makes Ghana beautiful and all these variations emanate from having different tribes in our national composition.I must say you score some points by saying that we should see one another as Ghanaian before our tribe. We must all learn to coexist in an atmosphere of mutual respect.
