From the human rights perspective, I totally agree with Nana Oye Lithur. Every citizen and resident of Ghana must be protected by the constitution of the land without discrimination.

From the moral point of view, I do not agree with her. Our Ghanaian society frowns upon the practice of people of the same sex flirting.

However, as of now, the laws of Ghana do not expressly forbid homosexuality. So anyone practising it is morally wrong but legally not wrong.

The solution lies in Ghana passing a law that explicitly prohibits homosexuality. It will then become both morally and legally wrong. Until such a law is enacted, Oye Lithur remains legally right but morally wrong.

Why our politicians cannot muster courage to pass the law is another issue to be debated.

Ghanaians instead of protesting against gay must unify to demonstrate against poverty, joblessness, corruption and unjustice in our country.
This is what Ghana need very urgent but not whether gay right is promoted or not. "Trumu to" or gays where there in Ghana from the infancy. The christian religion promote gays in their catholic belief.

He is not turning the Bible upside down, he is preaching the Bible. As it was in the days of Sodom and Gomorah so shall it be just before the return of our Savior Jesus Christ. We are witnessing what happened at the Gate to Lot's house where the Sodomites wanted to exert their will and to forcibly sleep even with the Havenly Visitors! Right in your face, that is what is happening now.

You can remain in Sodom or leave now as Lot and his family were instructed to. God is Love and Lungsuferring but The Holy Spirit will not strive with sinful man forever.

As a man of God, he can preach his message of repentance and salvation either from the pulpit or from the political platform but he must remember that in a modern state not all citizens are Christians to abide by the creed of of his ideology. That is why I question his professorial posturing with limited knowledge of other forms of religion. What will Jesus do? Jesus has never condemned homosexuality although it might be one of the social issues of his day.

Unless the Rev he is professor of sectarian presby religiosity, then his comments must be limited to those who follow his patriarchal and parochial ideology.

To call another citizen who is not a member of his religious sect with harsh words make him a patriarch to everyone. he must stop this appropriation of all Ghanaian as Presbyterians. The next time he will be 'lord' of us all.

The problem with religion is it has become an opium and the users after a good dose lash out their intoxication at everyone who is not a user. Prof Rev should rather ask Jesus to purify his mind and allow the Lord Jesus to teach him to accept everyone without condemnation.
Oyer's answers are very appropriate as political answer as she is not a religious leader but a politician. Her person views are different from the national view of inclusive democracy. Oye Lithur is a human rights lawyer and activist, whose calling is to ensure that every person in Ghana, regardless of faith, creed or association receives our God-given inalienable human rights.

Maybe this moderator has to grab a knife himself and roam the streets looking for Gays and set about lynching them. He should know that he cannot impose his religion on anyone. Shame on him. These are the people who have contributed to keeping Africa forever in darkness.

I wish she would come to her senses and declare " far be it from me that I should grieve God's heart by championing, albeit cunningly the cause of what God himself has declared abominable!"

Does the Rev Prof read Matt 8:19 and especially Mark 12: 13ff where Jesus highlighted civil responsibility to pay taxes and the personal obligation to worship God? Will the Rev Prof. say Jesus was "evasive" in his answer about taxes?
I hate how these pastors behave when it comes to homosexuality. Is homosexuality (sodomy) the only sin mentioned in the Bible? Jesus never condemned any 'Sinner' he was rather compassionate to them. So why are these 'white sepulchres'-white outside but rotten inside for their sinful 'trickeries' turn round and condemn others?
I agree with Oye. The issue is a societal issue that need to be discussed. It has nothing to do with morality. Does a homosexual couple who adopts and takes good care of a child committed greater sin than a heterosexual couple who gives birth to a child but abandon/or neglect him?
The world has changed. We have to have a sensible discussion of the issue.
So Mr. Prof. you're wrong by saying Oye was "evasive". Perhaps you were expecting a "Yes" or "NO" answer. Jesus did not always do that when he was confronted. So there is nothing wrong if Oye came across like that!

She picked on the gay rights in India and used it as an example in her article, mean in Uganda gay people are even killed. She did not mention that before asking which way Ghana should go, and yet she want to pretend as if she is objective. Secondly she was asked about gay practice and she went all talking about loving all persons like Christ did. Yes Christ loved all people, armed robbers, murderers and all, but did he approve of MURDER, ARMED ROBBERY and all that. We are talking about the act, Nana Oye is talking about the people. If you son is an armed robber, you would not stop loving him, but would you approve of his choice of life careers. She must give us a flipping break. If Parliament approves of this woman, we are in trouble. You can't go and bring someone's culture to our country in the name of globalisation. Why aren't those people adopting ours in the name of globalisation. Pastors etc, etc are hiding behind their IRRESPONSIBILITY of not reaching out to preach and convert gays and Lesbians to Christ but rather blaming Oye Lither for her Human Rights stand.
Yes, Gayism and Lesbianism are bad before God, but what about Fornication (Boyfriendism and Girlfriendism)? We should condemn thoses as well. Pastors should fight against that too.

I am a believer, don't believe in the homosexual lifestyle. But I advocated for the rights of all citizens. If you son or daughter was gay/ lesbian, would you be happy if someone beat them up for that reason? Same way you should be incensed if it was a straight person.

It's time for Ghana as a democracy to mature. Advocating for rights does not mean one is accepting the lifestyle.

We need Ministers such as Mrs. Lithur who can take that important stand & articulate it!

Ghana has not advocated for this as a lifestyle & has not bowed down to pressure from donors & I am proud of that. I am also proud that within that position, Ghana is still strongly advocating for gay/ lesbian righs as ordinary citizens. They are 1st Ghanaians, then female, then whatever tribe, whatever lifestyle.

Sir if u should hear a loud voice outside whilst preaching and it happens u step out to realise a man being lynched for trying to steal, kill or kidnapp someone would you stand to save him from the people or u let him go. I am sure you will defend the guy and later take him thru repentance. In the same way if a police man who has the responsibility of keeping people safe come across a homosexual who is being lynched do u think he will say he can not rescue him because he is a homosexual. This is discrimination in the highest order. Would a medical doctor in a war field refuse first-aid for a patient from the other side.
Sir we abhor lesbian and homosexuals, it is evil and we should find a way to draw these people who have a veil on their faces to come out of it. For these cause Jesus came.
