This is a good write up Akadu. Mahama has to understand that it took a lot of Akan support, almost 100% of Ewe support and a majority of Ga support for NDC to be where it is so if he should only appoint Northners in his govt then the NDC will be in coma come next next election and no one should be surprised if it happens.
Akadu just be bold and do the same should the NPP come to power and also repeat the same errors. For Ghana to be really progressive we must be bold to judge and treat all the parties the same should they be doing the wrong things.
Thank You.

Ms AKADU ,you are lady and history and philosophy we know women bring conflicts of untold harm to mankind: satirists, cynicism or what not bring protagonist and antagonists to places they regret when wisdom is lacking. Now Ghana seem to be deficient in this. What is wrong if Kuofur or any president finds that those he/she can work with come from one region? You are not helping stay away with this school of taught.

Says Prez Mahama is surrounded by Northerners
By A AYayra
At the time all peace-loving Ghanaians, including civil society groups, governance institutions as well as constitutionally mandated organs and religious bodies are advocating and praying for responsible behavior to ensure the country stays united, a senior citizen, Ambassador Kabral Blay Amihere may be thinking otherwise.
The chairman of a constitutionally established body, the National Media Commission (NMC), has been caught on tape not only deriding the President, John Dramani Mahama, but also engaged in tribal bigotry.
In one such encounter, which was said to have taken place early last week at a very important location, the hitherto respectable former Ghana Ambassador to Ivory Coast in the Kufuor regime and also an astute journalist of many accomplishments was heard scoffing in a discourse with a pal “your President will fail, he has surrounded himself with his northern tribesmen… Look at Roger, Raymond and Dr Sule Gariba”.
Al-Hajj’s further probing of the matter revealed that, that wasn’t the only instance at which Mr. Kabral Blay Amihere, whose strong leaning towards the opposition New Patriotic Party is never in doubt was making those ethnically disparaging remarks.
As if deliberately selected or calculated, the former Ambassador has made it an article of faith to make appointees of President Mahama with Northern extraction his chewing stick or better still tooth brush in his mouth of which he ridicules and discredit at the slightest instance, The Al-Hajj gathered.
The NMC boss is said to have told his colleagues that President Mahama’s Presidency is mutually assured of its political holocaust and it will be an eye-popping and jaw-dropping experience to watch how the President fails in office because of his regionalist approach to the selection of appointees to help him work.

What do you trokosis do with your dead? Do you eat them?
Dove; A Town Where It Is A Taboo To Menstruate, Give Birth And Bury The Dead
It is a taboo for women to give birth to babies or even menstruate in Dove, a town in the Mafi Traditional Area of the Central Tongu District.
As such, those expecting their menstruation and pregnant women in labour are by whatever possible means carried out of the town. They only return after delivery and after their menses have stopped.
This revelation was made by Dr Joseph Nuertey, the Volta Regional Medical Superintendent, when he delivered the state of health care in the region during the first general meeting of the Volta Regional House of Chiefs (VRHC) at Ho.
Dr Nuertey lamented that because of the age-long taboo, all efforts by the Ministry of Health (MoH) to establish a health facility to take care of birth and other issues had proven futile. He added that the taboo also forbade the burial of the dead in the town.
The medical superintendent, therefore, appealed to the VRHC to use their good offices to appease the gods in the area to lift the taboo. Dr Nuertey's revelation left the traditional rulers dumbfounded.
This prompted the Paramount Chief of the Battor Traditional Area, Togbega Patamia Dzekley VII, to say that he would immediately contact the chief and elders of Dove to see what could be done to resolve the issue
In most circumstances, it is the women, who are mostly farmers that nurture the children until maturity. According to the medical superintendent, he has been told that the gods of the town frown on anybody who flouts the taboo.
Dr Nuertey announced that maternal mortality in the region continued to be too high and this he attributed to the inadequate number of medical personnel and facilities in the region.

Can you read at all, or the name Akadu gives you some knee-jerk spasms of ideas? The fact that Rawlings did it, Kufour did it, Mills did it, and Mahama is doing it do not make a "tribalism" acceptable! For how long must we repeat our mistakes? That is the subject of the introductory stanza below! Then again so many of us on Ghanaweb are willing to defend crude policies as long we believe that our party and "tribal" leaders are in power. You sound like KATH and KOLA London: both have patented that "Kufour-list" ans always poise it to support the NDC! It is moronic. No where have I defended Kufour's list. I was among the first on Ghanaweb to question the Kufour Hotel as much as I questioned Konadu's Canery!
Our quotidian struggles
Foraging in dustbins of democracy
We excavate and incentivize “tribe”
Poise “tribe” in victory laps
Disguise hate as heritage
“Tribe” is the gem

In our archives of disfiguration

Would you be sincere enough to point out what you find objectionable here?
The poem talks about "tribal" appointments, going back to as far as JJ Rawlings, Kufour Mills, and now Mahama. So which one of these that don't you like, or is it a taboo to write about tribal appointments?
Read me carefully, because I don't give foko about any leaders - JJ, Kufour, Mills, or Mahama - because to me they are reckless pen-armed robbers.

Does the president belong to tribe? Yes
Does the president have a strong feeling of identity with and loyalty to his tribe? Yes
Is the president a tribalist? No
If no, Why?
The president belongs to a Ghanaian tribe called Gonja from the Northern Region, he served his people as MP and he did a lot for his people. So he loves his tribe and is loyal to Ghana and his tribe.
He is not a tribalist because he did not surround himself with Gonjas and neither has he given any Gonja a ministerial appointment. If anything he rather sacrificed his tribesmen for mother Ghana.

Northern Ghana was by design excluded from national development and educational activities from the colonial days until Nkrumah tried to compensate for our collective fraudulent acts. What happened to Nkrumah who saw wisdom in being fair using a system that stresses equity over greed?
Of late people have been using Northerners as second fiddle for northern votes while relegating northerners to powerless national posts. It is time Mahama made sure, at the very least, that there is a four year time span in Ghana where Northerners ruled over Ghana. Like it or leave it Akadua your kind are hiding in the comforts of nations created by people who shed their sweat , blood and tears to make things happen. Come back home with your worthless credentials to help build Ghana even if but in your warped image. Those of us from Southern Ghana should shut up and experience what it is to be shut out of power and influence even if but for 4 years. Go to hell Akadua.

Dear Writer,
You sound intelligent from afar but after reading your piece closely, i cannot but come to the conlcusion that your entire write up is nothing but a tribalistic piece of work. Your attempt to smear Mahama with tribalism will simply not "wash". I also strongly disagree with your assertion that people from the Upper West, Upper East and Northern Regions are all Northerners regardless of what we think or say. With all due respect, it smacks of ignorance and illiteracy on the part of any one to make such an uninformed proposition or argument and i will urge you to come again on this one. It defies common sense to think that all the people from Brong Ahafo, through Asante to the Eastern, Central, Greater Accra and Western Regions can be lumped together as Southerners in the name of eating from one political bowl. Please get serious and stop the useless propaganda. I believe you can use your time more profitably than this. Cheers.

As a nation, we definitely do have a tribal problem. Our bigger problem, however, is our denial of the sad fact that we have such a problem. The majority of folks at this forum, for example, are rabid tribalist, yet will vehemently deny such characterization. What makes it troubling is the fact that we are responding to the problem with denial, like what people with addiction problems do, be it gambling, drug or alcohol addiction.
Unfortunately, " denial is more than a river in Egypt."
This denial or refusal to acknowledge or accept what is true is a defense mechanism to make us feel better than the other folks who have the problem. So if Dr. Mensema is accusing the President of being a "tribalist" , she's engaged in denial that she herself is a "tribalist"; she is doing this in several ways:
Through rationalizing, by making up excuses for saying what she said and why she said what she said.
Through diversion, by shifting the focus of attention onto Mahama and others to avoid taking self-responsibility. That tribe and that person has that problem, but not I, God forbid, Ntiriwa.
Through self-delusion, by convincing herself that she and her ilk don't have such a problem.
That it is an Ntafuor problem, or it is the problem of the inward looking people with herd mentality, never the problem of "Yen Akanfuor".
We do have a tribal problem, a national one at that; and we can continue to bury our heads in the sand like the proverbial ostrich, until it blows up in our faces, or we stop the denial and become aware that we do have a gargantuan tribal problem.

Akan is probably the oldest race on earth, they came from far far away. Their footprints can be find all over (not only in Africa)i.e. Middle East, Mesopotamia. We are Hebrew-Aramaic folk of Jewish religion and culture. The first Akan was the son of Ezer, the son of Seir the Horite, the first foreign conqueror of Egypt. The second Akan was a descendant of Juda and the third, a descendant of Gad, all belonged to the twelve tribes of Israel. Akan folk in this sense, are made up of Isreal-Edomites, Twi (Tawi/Egyptians) and Babylonians.
Through the ages Akans established various kingdoms from the Mesopotamia to Kush, Egypt, Nubia and on to the formation of the Ghana Empire and Akan Kingdoms in West Africa today. The ancient Ghana empire (present day southeastern Mauritania and western Mali) was the final settlement of the Akan people before migrating to present day Ghana and Ivory Coast. We are the founders of the Ghana empire and not settlers. The Ghana empire was the first West-African kingdom and the richest kingdom on earth at that time. The invasion of the Amoravid brought the Islamic religion. The invasion and the forced imposition of Islam, made our ancestors resist the newcomers, since they refused to accept Islam and wanted to keep their Akan religion. After heavy warfare, they moved to present day Ghana and Ivory Coast in order to avoid constant warfare and to get the peace needed for their farming ventures.

Akadu nand all my critics, I am sure you will find that I am one of the staunchest critics of Rawling's near monopoly rule and have criticised some of the PNDC and NDC's policies, including what I believe is their contribution to the lowering of our educational standing. I also criticised Michael Bokor for his apparent support for Kofi Adams. Why, because Adams' behaviour and disrespect for the office of the president and the late president Mills (who like Maham, does not come from my tribe) was abominable and totally unacceptable to me. That is where I stand with regards to these issues.
I have applauded and ommended you when you have been balanced and objective. I am sorry that this particular posting was poor in my opinion and I believe if you wanted to provide a platform for discussion of issues around tribalism, this was not the right way to go about it. I am sorry, I found the article rather disappointing. I am just being honest. Frankly you can have any opinion of me, but I will be critical of anyone, including the president (of any tribe, creed or party) if they do the wrong thing.
Trust me. If I find the president's appointments unbalanced, I will be critical of him. I already have, with the appointments of the second wave of ministers including Dr Kumbour whom I know very well from our days in Legon. I was disappointed in that group of ministers and commented that I thought it was done more for party expediencies to satisfy the various constituencies or factions within the party for example.
I have already condemned some of the utterances of ministers. I don't know Mahama and don't belong to his tribe. I simply detest any cheap shots aimed at a person in authority such as a president. If you say things that are true, then I will support you. I do not agree that the president has in any way been tribalistic with his appointments so far. There is a fairly good balance although more can, and needs to be done. Furthermore, it is grossly erroneous and unfair to characterise appointments from the three northern regions as tantamount to tribalism because these regions (believe it or not) are different in their tribal, religious and other characteristics. Furthermore, as the Gonja association said in their own rebuttal to this type of cheap gossip, the president has not even appoint GONJAS who are his tribesmen.
So, Akadu, simply tell me, WHAT IS YOU DEFINITION OF TRIBALISM IN THIS CASE? Do you see what I mean? You are a social scientist and anthropologist and must know better. You must also recognise the sensitivities and sensibilities in the country at this point in time, to be making a 'joke' of issues around tribalism. People who hail from the THREE NORTHERN REGIONS are NOT A TRIBE. PLEASE GET THAT RIGHT. it is like saying that ALL PEOPLE IN EASTERN REGION ARE AKYEMS or that AKYEMS, , fates and Asantes are all one tribe.
Please make sure that you provide sound, accurate and objective analysis however critical you wish to be. Anything short of that will not be acceptable. For the less educated and bigoted who just choose to many any silly statements, one can ignore them but not an intellectual like you. I am not being hypocritical. I hope you will analyse my arguments objectively to see where I am coming from. Let's put things in the right perspective please. As I indicated, I would rather not read postings which do not bear a true reflection of the reality from you.

As you read through people's comments such as Nuh's above, I hope you will take a deep breadth and recognise that all of us, Ghanaians have a lot to learn about tribes, regions, cultures etc. and the learn not to generalise. It is worth noting that when such generalisations e.g. The notion of a "northerners' tribe" are made, they can be viewed by some as offensive and insulting.
As Nuh has pointed out, even within these regions, there are different tribes some of whom do not even relate well with each other. Please make sure your characterisations are accurate and not misleading in creating the impression that somehow the president is "doing what all Presidents past, present and in the future do, or will do". The jury is still out as far as Mahama's appointments are concerned but I can say with some degree of certainty that he has so far not been "tribalistic" in the way that you seek to portray. Please let us all learn from this.
