Guatemala ex-ruler Rios Montt to face genocide trial
Gen Efrain Rios Montt has been under house arrest since his immunity from prosecution was lifted A judge in Guatemala has ordered that former military leader Efrain Rios Montt stand trial for genocide. Gen Rios Montt will face charges of crimes against humanity in connection with the killing of 1,771 indigenous Mayans during his rule in 1982-1983. Prosecutors said he wanted to wipe out the indigenous group, which he suspected of supporting rebel fighters. Gen Rios Montt, 86, is the first ex-president to be charged with genocide by a Latin American court. The ruling clears the way for a three-judge to try the former president and another former military man, Jose Mauricio Rodriguez. Gen Rios Montt had enjoyed immunity from prosecution for 12 years while he was serving as a congressman. The immunity was lifted on 14 January 2012, when his term ran out. He has been under house arrest since. Judge Miguel Angel Galvez said there was enough evidence linking the general to the killing of members of the Ixil Maya group to warrant the trial. Gen Rios Montt will also face charges over the forced displacement of 29,000 indigenous Guatemalans as part of what human rights groups have called his "scorched earth" policy. BBC regional correspondent Will Grant says the ruling is a significant victory for human rights advocates who have been pressing for his trial since the end of the civil conflict in 1996. An estimated 200,000 people were killed or went missing during the 36-year conflict. Gen Rios Montt's 17 months in power are believed to have been one of the most violent periods of the war.

If it is true that the firemen fought the fire with water then there is a huge problem with the fire service.
Paints are basically and largely oil based and you do not fight oil fires using water. You fight oil fires using chemical foam as rightly pointed out by the Board chairman of BBC Industrial.Ghana's institutions are gradually being destroyed.

It is true that the BBC company paid for the water used to quench the fire and also fueled the fire tender to the place? I will not be surprise to hear from the police also saying that they don't have enough fuel for their vehicles in conducting regular patrols. It is time the government wake up from sleeping and face the facts on the ground than always given excuses. All these are avenue for corruption within our security sectors.People who rush to make press statement without knowing the actual facts should put a stop to it because it does not help anybody to continue lying and running away from the facts. There is not commitment to duty within our security setup and these is where I expect the new Minister of Interior Ahoi should look into it.

After everything is burnt you ask people to see if the warehouse was congested, bcos the fire has burnt almost everything and there are spaces so you can now brag ''see if my warehouse is congested''.

Alhaji Odaymat, Let the fire service be.
When you keep volatile, combustible and explosive materials on your compound, the law requires of you to inform the fire service and to give them a drawing or layout of the site. The quantities kept and the means of safeguarding them in the event of a fire can then be known and catered for in any outbreak. You did not have any means of controlling the chemicals and wanted them to build sand banks (berms), you had no water reservoirs and yet you complain about paying for the water.
Are you saying you made layouts and cheicals held information available?
The firemen and women and not to go to fires just to risk their lives. Please you talk too much.

So why are you refusing to tell the world what chemical you stored in the container. And if you are so clean why would you stab the police investigator so 'gleefully'. I hope none of the perpetrators is walking free.
