Dr. Ahenkora should later on come out and tell us how much the refirgerator manufacturer will pay him before setting up a factory in Ghana. Manufacturers are not investing in Ghana because of the corrupt attitude of the officials responsible for giving out permits. Unfortunately the bad manufacturing companies win because they are ready to pay the most bribes. We will all know how long the refigerators that will be produced locally will last. I am for the ban if the measure is really in the good interest of the ordinary Ghanaian.

You would expect that the local manufacturing would start before the ban, or soon after. Now we have banned, and now looking for a manufacturer. Our national planning is just pathetic.

Message to Dr. Alfred Ahenkorah, executive secretary of the Energy Commission, your idea of stoping the old Fridges can not help Ghana, why because it is going to bring more creminals into ghana, because most of the children who have learn the work of fridges are going to stop working and how are they going to live.Ask your self if you buy the new fridge for about 3 to 4years and it get fault are you going to spoil it or you will send it for repairs. TO my idea and to your co-operation, I would like you and the people in Ghana to mantain this fridges NR.R600 R134 and R800, these numbers
dont give sickness or use more energy and thy are been used even in advance countries like germany, France.

When con artists are at the helm of affairs nothing good comes out. Ghanaians will forever tighten their belts until there is not enough oxygen flow to the brain. Then everything collapses. Perhaps they will then realize they have been had big time. We sit on gold but we are poor. Oil and gas is in abundance but not enough juice for home consumption. Our law makers are the very ones who should be behind bars. Men and women who should know better will turn around and gun for my throat for to them, I am not educated enough therefore I am not qualified to have an opinion. Mass migration from towns and villages to live like dogs in the big cities. With sincere guidance and encouragement they could till the land to become rich in 4 short years. If farming is such a bad thing why are the Chinese and whites buying our farmlands? We have confused leaders and they continue to lead the not so informed masses into the ditch. Criminality gives a temporal rush but then when the truth catches up with you “you go catch pepper”. Today you are untouchable and you are invincible. If heaven should come down you will catch it. It is called complacency. You lose focus and you feel you are immortal and that my dear is the fool in you manifesting its ignorant self. Does it ever occur to them that they leave behind their offspring to inherit the wrath of blunders committed by their parents? I once read one of Acheampong`s son roaming the streets of Accra butt naked. Even if he displayed minute latency of insanity earlier on, the brutal assassination of his father triggered the full blown mad state he was in.
It can take only 10 years of intelligent leadership and Ghana could be like Heaven with all the good and bad that come with it. All I see now is evil and the devils advocates. I am sorry guys if this is not music to your ears; this is “say it loud”. Ghana is a good country in the hands of bad people. We can do a whole lot better than this. Why play the fool and be treated as such by scum bags.

YES YES YES...brother I am with you on this.
The ban should be implemented to the full. These commentators are all living abroad and they know very well what happens here.

During this time, you think it would have been a good idea to have a place in Ghana that manufactures fridges PRIOR to the ban?

this ban is certainly not reasonable. because to say all used fridges are not efficient or pollutes the environment is not true and misleading.
first of all there are about five main categories of refrigerants used in modern refrigeration units.
the first and most environmentally damaging is the cfc's eg. r12. but these are no longer used in the developed world since 2008.
the second group is the hcfc's. these too are being faced out since 2010 and very few refrigeration unit today have those refrigerant and therefore unlikely to be shipped to ghana in large quantities.
that leave us with the relatively acceptable and environmentally friendly group called the hfc's eg. r134a.
i can assure my readers that about 70% of all domestic refrigeration units shipped to ghana will have this type of gas and so will 90% of all cars with air conditioning. yes, there are newer, efficient and more environmentally friendly refrigerants such as the hc's and co2. but it still does not make sense to put a wholesale ban on imported second hand fridges since most will contain hfc's and hc's which are efficient, does not deplete the ozone and are still being produced and used in europe and america.
my argument is that, since almost all car with air conditioning have those gas in them, will the government ban importation of air conditioning cars?
so the wisest thing the government should have done was to specify the type of refrigerant that are not allowed and allow those units with the much more efficient and environmentally friendly units into the country.
if not, they should as well ban imported cars. anything short of that does not make sense.
