The police have arrested Alice Brako, for allegedly hiring assassins, including her son, Derrick Twum (A.K.A Kuu) to kill her boyfriend, in a bid to take over a building that belong to the lovers.
The suspect, a 42-year-old Revenue Inspector at the East Akyem Municipal Assembly, is in the custody of the Eastern Regional Police Headquarters with Kelvin Boateng, a 22-year-old unemployed, who was identified by security agents as one of the assassins hired to commit the crime.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Kwabena Gyamerah-Yeboah, Regional Police Commander, told journalists in Koforidua on Monday that the deceased, Kwadwo Duah, a 58-year-old businessman, and lover of the suspect, was a resident of Old Tafo-Akim.
DCOP Gyamerah-Yeboah said that Duah and Brako acquired a building at New Nsutam, and rented part of it to the Adonteng Community Bank whilst he (deceased), his lover and foster children lived in the other apartment.
The Regional Police Commander said last year, a misunderstanding ensued between Duah and Brako over the ownership of the house, which continued until January 26, this year, when Brako gave GH¢3,000.00 to her son, Twum, to hire three assassins from Koforidua to kill Duah.
He said On January 27, 2013 at about 1130hours, when the deceased arrived at New Nsutam from Tafo and entered his house, he was attacked by the unknown assassins, who inflicted multiple cutlass wounds on the neck, hands and legs.
DCOP Gyamerah-Yeboah said Duah’s scream for help attracted neigbours to the scene, who spotted Boateng attempting to scale the wall, but was arrested.
The Regional Police Commander said during preliminary investigations, Boateng revealed that he and four others now on the run were hired for GH¢3,000 by Brako and her son to kill Duah to enable her take possession of the house.
The body has been deposited at the Kibi Government Hospital morgue pending autopsy while the Police were seeking the four men who are on the run.

Toronto police have identified the 27-year-old woman whose body was found in Etobicoke over the weekend who police said met “an extremely violent end.”
Speaking at an afternoon news conference, Det. Sgt. Brian Borg said the victim, identified early Monday evening as Bridget Takyi, was stabbed and set on fire with a flammable substance.
“The intensity of that fire has virtually left her body unrecognizable,” Borg said.
Takyi was killed in the Martin Grove Road and Eglinton Avenue West area around 4 a.m. Saturday as she was walking to her car on Richgrove Drive to leave for work, police said. Her body was discovered in the street several hours later.
Police also said Monday that the suspect in the crime – arrested Saturday – was out on bail at the time of the murder. He was already facing domestic violence-related charges involving Takyi stemming from an incident that took place Dec. 5, police said. Those charges include three counts of assault, two counts of assault with a weapon and one count of threatening death against Takyi.
“At the time this crime was committed, the accused was in breach of numerous conditions of his court ordered release,” Borg said. “I do not believe that this is a case where the person acting as a surety and that posted bail for the accused’s earlier release can be held at fault for the accused leaving the location where he was staying.”
Police also released photos of evidence collected at the scene of the Takyi’s death, including a gas can, black gloves and a knife box.
On Saturday, police arrested a 30-year-old suspect identified as Emmanuel Owusu-Ansah at a Mississauga gas station in connection with the crime. He has been charged with first degree murder. He is set to appear in court Jan. 30.
The investigation is still ongoing and police are urging anyone with information to come forward.

The last time l checked the meaning of an eyewitness, my dictionary told me that he/she is a person who physically witnessed an incident taking place right before him/her. If there was an eyewitness to the gruesome murder, then the police do not need to arrest anybody on suspicion but arrest the murderer as evidenced by the presence of the person who saw him beheading the dead person. An Eyewitness account indeed!
