Man, I surged in here to spew the same venom as you. I loathe my fellow citizens who encroach on every piece of property in Accra, not only to set up rickety little shops, but also to disrupt real commerce. Seriously we the people have to fight against these domestic threats, not government or law enforcement, because Africans are quick at playing "the race card", the "class card" just for their lackadaisical personal interests. We need vigilantes to ransack these encroachers - Hit & Run...

Artile 266(4) of the 1992 Constitution does not permit a non-citizen of Ghana to hold a leasehold interest in land in Ghana for a period exceeding 50 years. If it is true this Togolese has been granted such long period of lease, then it is unconstitutional. The occupants have possessory title and can apply to the high court for a declaration of title by the Togolese. This would enable the court to nullify the transaction. But i have my doubts if the acquirer is really a Togolese.

A 99 year lease is virtually a freehold. One would have thought that for public institution to dispose of surplus land or seek to rationalize their assets, they first would publish such matters for the public record and invite bids from the public. Secondly don't they require some ministerial approval or parliamentary endorsement to dispose of what are state assets?

Unfortunately, the materialistic youth of today including me join stomach politicians whose ultimate interest is to exploit the state so as to ensure their families against poverty for the next hundred millenia without regard to the future generations. God bless Ghana especially at time citizens cannot get potable water, yet the economy can support an ever-explanding parliament with an MP monthly salary of over 70 million old Ghana cedis. We need to be very careful on this issue. It is not a matter of a Togolese getting what not.If the government has properly released the said land for development, which we need so much, there is absolutely nothing wrong with it. It is foolish and irresponsible on the part of anyone to bring in nationality.Do we not have these useless Chinese all over the country, stealing and plundering our resources with the help of our so called chiefs? I would advise Mr. De Souza, a Togolese name for that matter to to be very circumspect of what he is saying. We need development and not squatters on any available piece of land, being government´s or not.

What is wrong at all with Ghanaians when it comes to Land issues? The Land was sold genuinely to from GRC to an Individual, and the Individual simply bought the Land for a purpose. So if he wants the ones occupying it by now to leave, it is his right and the people should adhere to his wish. Rather instead of complaining and wasting time, they should rather be on the look for a new place by now!
It is disgusting that each and everyone always calls on Government for help whilst it is not a Governmental issue
Ghana will never change for the better if we ourselves do not learn to behave in the right way and always fight for things which do not belong to us.
