This is the 21st Century, not the medieval ages when corrupt priests could cause people to be burnt at the stake (like Joan of Arc was) based on fabricated evidence. I hate to say it, but many of these money-hungry, corrupt Ghanaian clergy and so-called men of God are more of an abomination to our society than the gays and lesbians they condemn. Yes they have the right to speak their mind and we have the right to shut them down. Just because you have the right to speak doesnt mean people should accept your nonsense. If the clergy says the earth is flat we have the right to repudiate them and reduce them to a laughing stock. And rightly so. Public policy should not be based on their superstitious and fairy beliefs. Majority of them are uneducated charlatans who prey on ignorant Ghanaians. Their verbal eruptions are not facts and should be ignored. Most have not read the bible and have rudimentary understanding of it. Unless you'll let a fisherman operate on your brain, you should treat them the same way. Enlightenment is passing Ghana by and we have these mountebanks to thank for that. We as Africans will never be able to build a something as simple as a cheap aircraft unless we reject these regressive forces in our society. God doesnt live in the skies and pounding fufu doesnt disturb his eyesight. Such is the nonsense we need to eject from our society.

To think that such fake religious zealots want to force social policies on the nation is beyond belief.
I do not condone act of homosexuality because I simply cannot conceive it's relevance in human society or for that matter in any living species, but as an advanced human being, I am sensitive and protective of all living species for as long as their behavior does not infringe upon my rights, freedoms and personal life. Public affection was never even part of our culture until this new generation started evolving. Kissing in public streets of Accra is uncommon even amongst heterosexuals, therefore if I observe 2 men or women kissing passionately in public I would be totally disgusted. I would also assume that they may be trying to be defiant towards homophobics, and that in a sense would be asking for trouble. If these two or thousands decide to practice their misunderstood relationship in the privacy of their homes I will have no qualms, same attitude towards a man and woman having open sex publicly, they should get what comes their way. Now to think there could be anyone more qualified than this lady, who protects the rights of all citizens in all manner of things astounds me. if there is anybody we in this civilized society should protest against, it is you blasphemers, pedophiles, philanderers, child molesters and fake clergy.

The moral priciples of a nation is much important than its democratical values which based mainly on selfish politician.
ghana is declared as much religious country- and our religious backgrounds are against those evil acts. as a country we must hold on to our moral values which hold us together as one people with common goals.
i am not against her person but i gainst her principles when it comes on homosexuality, the ministtrie she is been appointed to lead is to teach good morals in our society which must be in line with our religious believes, so if she is against our morals as a people then she should stay where she is and allow one who believe in our principles & morals as a nation to lead the ministry
As a ghanaian i want my tax to be paid to one to whom the majority of the people can benefit from not the one who will insert evil morals in our socity.

This Adolf Awuku is ignorant about democracy and somebody needs to educate him or advise him to get lost with his stupidity.
The clergy and any Ghanaian has the democratic right to say whatever they want about any candidate they feel is not fit to be a minister, they don't have to wait until parliament begins vetting the individual.
Saying the nominee should not respond to the people is backwardness and arrogance.
This guy should know that so long as homosexualism remains a crime in Ghana he cannot say she was protecting law abiding citizens, you cannot say somebody protecting law breakers is protecting law abiding citizens unless you do not understand what is law abiding citizens.
homosexualism not only against the laws of Ghana but against every culture in Ghana and whoever is working to introduce that nonsense in Ghana does not deserve to be a minister.
Democracy does not mean people cannot criticize political appointees so this Awuku guy needs to learn what a democracy is,we are not in military rule that nobody can say anything critical of political appointees.
How can we go round arresting prostitutes but not people engaged in abominable practice?
Having said that, let us give this woman the benefit of the doubt to see what she will do as a minister whether she will break the laws of Ghana to protect gays or not which I doubt she will do since she will swear oath to respect or uphold the laws of the country.

what an abomination is? Eating snails is an abomination in certain cultures, so what should be done to those who eat it every sunday? Should a dog eater dictate to a non dog eater? Democracy doesn't mean we should embrace the moribund rule of the majority. The majority can be wrong and therefore policies shouldn't be solely based on the rule of the majority. There is such a thing as an individual right which trumps majority rule in a democracy. It is the only thing that ensures that majority rule never takes away the individual. Criminalizing a sexual orientation is stupid as criminalizing dietary habits. Ghana will never be taken seriously anywhere outside of Africa as a civil society as long as that remains on the books. Democracy leads to open society which leads to tolerant society. Ghanaians have traded their chance to be enlightened for cheap charlatans and snake oil salesmen peddling fraudulent gospel. We will remain in the darkness until we purge ourselves of these hustlers and their tricks.

Has that stopped Ghanaians and some of these clergymen from benefiting from it? How about fleecing of the poor? Have these clergymen stopped doing that? How about slavery? A civil society treats all its citizens equally irrespective of colour, creed or sexuality. If we can't accept that gay people are people and deserve to be respected, then we should stop this pretence of civility and go back to living in huts, prancing around naked and asking the jujuman for rain. It is silly in 2013 to be discriminating against people because of their sexual orientation. Why not discriminate against people because of their dietary orientation? Akpene eaters should be ban from holding office. Yam eaters can only speak on sundays. Kontomire lovers should only shit on Tuesdays. How is that? See how ridiculous this is?

How on earth can somebody who calls himself a scholar tell us people breaking the laws of our country are law abiding citizens, so what is the use of having laws if the law breakers are law abiding citizens, what about armed robbers,do we call them also law abiding citizens?
I hope this woman does not take this stupid advice and start expaining to the clergy or Ghanaians about her stand on gays before she gets to parliament house and I will not be surprise to see people demonstrating against her in parliament house if she takes the advice of the likes of Awuku.

Years later Britain and U.S. have to make the use of opium illegal. Thus it is not anything that other people declare legal including racial segregation that we should support.
I write here again that the logic is that no person in his right mind pass food through his or her nose, because there is and opening there to the body.
Those who said that they support Homosexuality including Nana Oye Luther have not proved to us that human digestive organ can be used to produce children. If it is the case of enjoyment, then the next thing she and other will do is to legalize opium and even people killing others for sport, because it will be said to be the right of another person to take the life of another for sport.
The question to ask them is do homosexuals use their digestive organ to digest food? If they stop doing so so have they changed their sexual organs to perform the task of digesting food?

Mahama by his current appointments has demonstrated how his government is going to fail in the near future. In a bid to make his government look good in the midst of the controversy surrounding his electoral victory he has tried to surround himself with big titled individuals who are mostly academicians and scholars. These people have nothing to offer. I tell you a JHS graduate who is a practitioner is better than them. Just look at how Prof Ameyaw Akumfi flopped at the ministry of education even though he served as a director general of the GES for sometime before his appointment. If president Mahama allows a university professor to supervise the implementation of the Technical University promise then he is in for trouble because the training of a practitioner is different from the training of a scholar.

I am surprised at the extend to which Ghanaians are gullible. Guys and lesbians are living in individual homes. Nana Oye only speaks against their abuse so if we think it's a very serious issue, can we tackle them at that level. Who is ready to kill his/her child when her or she realizes that the child is a homosexual? Let's not blame people for the mistake of others. All the noise made here is unnecessary we should learn to be constructive in our criticism.

Actually in Europe; studies have shown that there are more gay people within the clergy (proportionately) than outside of it. Of course, the Ghanaian clergy must contain no gay people at all for such a study.... It is strange how threatened some people are by the true concept of human rights. We want our rights for our gender, clan, race, politics, age group etc. Yet the right for two people who want to love each other seems to drive some people mental beyond reason. I remember once hearing of a fellow who would often abuse anyone who he thought acted gay, and once even hit a man who he accused of walking like a woman. In the end he was caught in a Kumasi gym with his pants down exposing himself to other macho men.
I wonder if some of the worst anti-gay people here are the same. For when you look people in the eye, rather than at their bulla or groin, you can see only the person, and not their sexuality.

Do these clergymen believe gay ghanaians don't deserve a voice? Or being gay makes you less of a Ghanaian? Such stupid elements in the Ghanaian society is the reason the society still remains infantile in it's thinking. If these fake clergymen believe their god is all powerful then they should leave it to him to deal with gay people. The truth is their god will do no such thing because unlike them, their god considers gay people as his creation too. Ghana needs to mature and in order to do so needs to purge itself from the fairy tales and witchcrafts. It should follow the example of Jefferson and the American founding fathers and pull religion out of the public forum. It should be a private affair between a man/woman and his/her god. It should not be used to formulate social policy. How about the government starts taxing these clergymen and their churches? Or put them to a test. Let them pray away Ghana's poverty and if they cant do that, be abolished.

Because she is an advocate for gay and lesbian rights, a stand that is contrary to the religious inclination of an overwhelming majority of Ghanaians. What is it with you lot and your need to hate and discriminate against those who are different? God created "the gays" so it his his wish to have them around. If he didn't want it he would have wiped them out. The traditional beliefs also believed you can cure cancer with chicken, yams and a hocus pocus dance from a witch doctor. Do you still believe that? If not then how can you believe anything it says about gay people? You and your believers have nothing to stand on except some arcane and archaic beliefs that is being debunked each year by science. You should mind your own business and stop worrying about what someone does in his own bedroom.

Do not forget God who has brought us this far so we can continue to enjoy His blessings. Please, be the Joshua of our time as you have been nick-named and mighty things will be done in your time.
Even as I write I can hear the still voice of your predecessor, Atta Mills, who minced no words when he declared that Ghana will never legalize homosexuality. I know the international community will put pressure on you to acquiesce to their demand to give homosexuals free roles to operate in this country but never give in for the Lord is on your side and you will always prevail in Yahshua's (Jesus) name, amen.

For the homophobes here, do not be a hypocrite. Alan Turing, the father of computing was gay. For those among you who curse gay people and wish so venomously to deny them their rights to love each other, if you hate gay people so much, then throw your computers out of the window now. For your computer would not exist without a gay man.
For those of you who like to use your Bible to justify your prejudice (the same Bible by the way that was used to justify slavery amongst other human rights atrocities in the ages). Jesus by the way, never had bad things to say about gay people. The books that do (Leviticus) have bad things to say about everyone. Let us not pick and choose.
The countries with the highest levels of innovation and progress have the best human and ergo gay rights. This is because freedom of expression leads to innovative and creative thinking. Ghana needs every Nana Oye it can get to get ahead if it wants to be a serious power in this world, rather than a coup of clucking chickens that peck to death any chicken that is different.
I am straight and I defend the rights of gay people because I am not threatened by their existence or presence. Also, as someone who has witnessed prejudice as a black person I cannot in conscientiousness deny others their human rights. For those of you who can, your minds are as small as your hearts.

Absolutely very big contradiction.Low-level minded individuals are vehemently criticizing NPP for filing petition with the Supreme Court over the alleged electoral mal-practices.Where else should the party seek redress? In a democratic society, the judiciary seeks to adjudicate the law to resolve issues which could otherwise, have been volatile. It is very appropriate for NPP to seek redress through a democratically instituted system.Very good precedent for other African Nations to emulate. No arms, no military.Chaos and anarchy prohibited at this momentuous epoc when all nations are striving for economic and political advancement, could be detrimental to our lovely nation. We all have to seek for peace and harmony to sustain the gains of upholding DEMOCRACY and RULE OF LAW.
