ASKING SUCH A QUESTION SUGGESTS THAT THE WRITER HAS LOST TOUCH WITH GHANA POLITICS. NDC'S STREGNTH IS ITS BROADBASED CHARACTERISTIC AND ITS STRONG PRESENCE IN ALL THE REGIONS EVEN IN THE SO CALLED STRONGHOLDS OF THE MAJOR OPPOSITION NPP. THE VALUES AND POSTURE OF THE PARTY AS RESPECTOR OF ALL AS ONE PEOPLE IRRESPECTIVE OF TRIBE IS A MAJOR FACTOR AND A POSITIVE ATTRIBUTE. THE NDC IS A VERY HETEROGENOUS PARTY THAT HAS GALVANISED PEOPLE FROM ALL WALKS OF LIFE INTO ONE WHOLE WITH A COMMON AGENDA. PEOPLE THOUGHT THAT IT WAS AYGBE PARTY MOULDED AROUND JJ RAWLINGS UNTIL THEY SAW THE TRUTH WHEN PROF MILLS GOT ONTO THE THRONE AND JJ RAWLINGS WAS NOT SEEING EYE TO EYE WITH HIM AND NANA KONADU SATRTED MISBEHAVING AND MISCONDUCTING HERSELF. VOLTA REMAINED WITH PROF MILLS BASED ON PRINCIPLES. IT SHOCKED JJ RAWLINGS AND KONADU AND MADE THEM AWARE THAT THE NDC IS NOT A ONE MAN SHOW OR ONE DIRECTIONAL PARTY. THE PARTY IS VERY BROAD-BASED AND FOR ALL THOSE WHO HAVE THE FEELING THAT ALL TRIBES, RACES, AREAS AND PEOPLE ARE EQUAL AND DESERVE RESPECT. AND THAT NO TRIBE OR PEOPLE OF GHANA ARE STRANGERS ON THIS LAND AND ARE NOT CREATED BY GOD BY ACCIDENT. IF YOU RESPECT AND HOLD THE VIEW THAT EVERYPERSON DESERVES TO BE RESPECTED YOU WILL ALIGN WITH THE NDC. THAT IS THE TRUE STATE OF AFFAIRS. NDC IS PARTY FOR ALL.

Sarpong you had tried to be neutral in some of your recent articles as compared to those in the past. I dont care how you spin it for now the NDC looks better than the NPP when it comes to national representation.
I think the NPP has better developmental agenda than the NDC and the NPP gurus knows whats up as compared to some of the clueless idiots in the NDC. Though the NDC has a strong support in the North and the Volta it has in recent elections performed better in the Western, Central, GA, and BA regions as compared to the NPP which relies heavily on the Ashanti and Eastern votes. If not for the population in Ashanti the NPP as it stands now could not even be called a major poilitical force.
Coupled with the tradition of " ancestral inheritance" which impedes mobility in the NPP unless one has a long family history with the NPP is a major block for many nobody's to be somebody's in the NPP.
Sometimes we may have to swallow our pride and face reality as it stands. The REPUBLICANS are in the same quagmire as the NPP. Both are seen as bunch of intolerant ppl very wary of the minority.
The republicans once used to lable the Democrats as a party of poor, uneducated, lazy, libral ppl yet in the last election it was realized that Asian Americans who are the most educated in America also voted for Obama 7 to 3 for Romney. Women, young ppl, and even religious ppl voted for the democrats.

The fact that the NDC had elected an Ewe, a Fante, and a Northner in the last 4 election makes the NDC more national than the NPP. Jerry was the only one with a historical link to the PNDC. Atta Miills and Mahama came from no where and made it to the top.
This was a different scenario with the NPP where their last candidates had either been Akyem or Asante and they all had long historical family links to the party.
The question now is can a nobody with no lenghthy family ties make it to the top? Where the NPP candidate comes from is not the issue but those the candidates will surround themsleves with.
Just as the NPP cries over the appointment of Awoonor so the appointment of some of the NPP known supremacist like Ken Agyepong and or Okoampa will not go down well with many Ghanaians.
We wait to see if Mahama's appointment will be nationally representative. The Northners as it stands now are defenitely a lot, I think the Ewes are no more than the Akans but the appointments have just begun and we wait to see if Mahama can rise above the tribal/regional appointments.

Eei, Ghana! Some people are laughing at the wrong side of their mouth. My own people Ewes are difficult to satisfy. Strategically in government appointment since Nkrumah times to date, Ewes have had a large size of it. In security institutions Ewes constitute over 60% of both high & junior ranking appointment and not to mention the civil and public service. This behavior took a prominent turn during Mills administration with Ewes occupying most of the major appointments. Now that Mahama has come we want the trend to continue, why? The northerners have to have their fair share. Besides, the Ashantes prefer the northerners to Ewes since they are their kinsmen from time past. They recognize the Gongers as the first AKANs and that they see them as kinsmen and the Gongers see them as such. This chemistry exist when their leaders meet. So, it is back to square ONE my brothers and sisters of Eweland.

Kwesi Pratt blasts Prez Mahama over appointments
Managing Editor of the Insight Newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jr. has raised concerns over the four appointments made by President John Dramani Mahama on Tuesday.
He says immediate reactions that followed the announcement suggest the president may not have done enough consultations with his party.
Kwesi Pratt told Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana programme on Wednesday that the president must be cautious to forestall dissension from within his own party against his appointments.
“If you look at these four appointments and you base your judgment on these appointments, you will have a very, very distorted view of the government,” Mr. Pratt said.
He argued that the fact that people within the party do not know the newly appointed Chief of Staff, Mr. Kwesi Bani could be a recipe for trouble.
According to Mr. Pratt, this could prove a dire disadvantage to him because he will be expected to have oversight responsibility over ministers.
“[The Chief of Staff] has to have an understanding of the government machinery and the party. Also that people were looking for information about [him] will suggest that there was not adequate consultation,” he said, adding the business of government is team work and the president must do well to include others in such vital decisions.
Mr. Pratt raised further questions about the newly created positions of the Executive Secretary to the President, which hitherto, was Secretary to the President.
“In a government where you have a Chief of Staff, the ‘Executive Secretary’, what is it supposed to mean? Does it give him extra powers? How is it related to the Chief of Staff?’ he queried.
“It is problematic and it needs to be clarified otherwise there will be confusion in the Castle.”
Mr. Pratt appealed to the presidency to clarify to Ghanaians, the functions of the Senior Policy coordinator, Dr. Sulley Gariba as well.

Cardinal is in this Clear Lake a Houston Suburb for about 6 months, he walks to work every day and passes a shoe store. Each day he stops and looks in the window and admires a certain pair of Bocceli leather shoes. After about 2 months he saves the $300. 00 the shoes cost and purchases them.
Each Friday night the Italian community gets together at a dance at the church basement with a Priest , so Cardinal seizes the opportunity to wear his new Bocceli leather shoes to the dance.
He asks Sophia to dance and as they dance he asks her, "Sophia, do you wear red panties tonight?"
Sophia, startled, says " Yes, Cardinal, I do wear red panties tonight, but how do you know?"
Cardinal replies, "I see the reflection in my new $300. 00 Bocceli leather shoes, How do you like them?
Next he asks Rosa to dance, after a few minutes he says to her "Rosa, do you wear white panties tonight?"
Rosa answers!, " Yes, Cardinal, I do, but how do you know that.
He answers, "I see the reflection in my new $300. 00 Bocceli leather shoes. How do you like them?"
Now the evening is almost over and the last song is being played. Cardinal asks Carmella to dance.
Mid way through the dance his face turns red. He says "Carmella, still my heart, please, please tell me you wear no panties tonight, please, please, tell me this true,"
Carmella answers, " Yes, Yes Cardinal, I wear no panties tonight."
Cardinal gasps and says, "Thank God... thought I had a CRACK in my new $300. 00 Bocceli leather shoes.

From this quotation from his article, we can tell that he isn't a hater of Asantes as you foolishly claim, but that he is just wondering why the NPP supporters draw such parallels:
"One major problem that makes it difficult for the NPP to shed off its stigma as an “Akan” party is the mentality that shapes and shaves the attitude of its followers. More often than not, any criticism of the NPP is regarded by the party’s supporters as a direct attack on Asantes, which worries me,not because it is true or because I agree with it but because of its tendency to worsen the NPP’s outreach efforts."
Aren't you intelligent enough to see things as we do?

Its now time for the northerners to also choip. In Rawlings time it was the Ewes. In Mills time the Fantes. Now its time for JM to satisfy his kinsmen. Who cares about national balance. For the NPP the presidency was literally taken away from your mouths. I doublt whether this court case will go anywhere. Its a difficult test. But lets go for it. NPP we need a radical shakeup. We need to determine who will lead us in 2016. Put tribalism aside and most importantly we need to appeal to the masses. Its unfortunate though NDC has no message and no plans for the youth etc but strangely they are being voted for. The NPP has the vision and the drive to make Ghana what it is but the masses say no. Oh Ghana. If its just about winning votes lets learn the hard way what the NDC is doing and adopt. Its a shame we have to deceive the people to steal their votes and its surprising the millions of Ghanaian voters cannot see thru this deception. They are in power now. Our money and resources will be chopped big time. What time is it. Its truly JM's time

Akadu,
I have known for a while now that you are Akurang-Parry, but I am not the type to divulge a person's hidden identity in a public forum. I am glad that you've finally admitted to all of us who you really are. That must be some serious weight off of your chest! Phew!
I have always found it weired that you write in your signature "... He lives with his great mentor ...." How can a whole professor be living with a mentor for many years? It's not as though you were disabled and needed help getting around.
There are some others who write using pseudonyms, but I will never divulge their identities -- I leave it up to them to do so. In this day and age, writers on Ghanaweb.com must know that people can easily figure out if they were using multiple names or not, so it is just better to write articles under one's real name!
Akadu, I hope you'll start writing under your real name, going forward. After all, a man has got to be a man and stand by his writings.
Bokor is a coward, not only because he refuses to discuss his own articles, but because he comments on his pieces via a moniker. People can figure these things out, with the technology we have in hand!
Finally, love or hate Sarpong, he is absolutely courageous, even if I don't always agree with him on the issues under discussion. For example, the fact that Kufuor's appointees were mostly Asante and Mills' were mostly Ewes and Northerners did not make them okay. In fact, Mahama has an opportunity to dispel these beliefs by broadening his appointments to encompass the entire populace. I disagree with Sarpong that Mahama can choose his appointees any way he wants; this trend must stop.
After all, if another Asante becomes president and appoints 70% Asante to his cabinet, people will complain. This is why Sarpong must let Mahama know now that it is not okay to appoint only Ewes and Northerners.

Kwabena, you are just a small boy in history despite your PhD. The pity is that not many people, esp. Ghanaian historians, are ready to tell the truth about past cos of the sensitive and raw emotions it still arouses; so dubious charlatans like you have a field day to lie and distort the facts. With me, you can't get away, as I am ready to tell it as it were.
When Pryce wrote in that challenge to you that the missionaries had to locate from Peki and Ho to Keta 'cos of the "political situation" over there, I chuckled to myself and said: you called mass murder, plunder and rape political situation?? Phew! Ahoofe is still mad from those events, you know?

What prejudices are you talking about? When MAHAMA told Northerners to vote for him as a Northerner, was that prejudice? When we discuss the free education in the North by saying Northerners enjoy free education, is that prejudice? When did the word Northerners become a demeaning term?
Our brains are supposedly meant to reason but I guess some of us don't know that. Why should I use the term "Asantes and Southerners when I can say GA, BONO, AKYEMS, FANTIS ETC?
The reason why we use Northerners to refer to people who come from the three Northern regions is that, there are too many tribes as you yourself mentioned and the three regions make demands specifically for the three regions as if they are one, eg, free education, SADA and others.
If you are not a Northerner as you said(I DOUBT YOUR SINCERETY) why are you concerned when the people from the North are not complaining? Find something important to complain about.

While he was trying to figure out a solution, the mouse heard a dog barking. That's when he had a great thought. He said to himself, "Where there is a dog there is no cat and where there's no cat I can go for my walk."
So he strutted on out of his mouse hole. All of a sudden the cat grabbed the mouse, chewed him up, and ate him. Then the cat said, "Wow, it's great to be bilingual!

Grouping an entire ethnicities and label them with your stereotype is wrong, it amounts to tribalism and has no place in the 21st century. If you are too lazy to list the names then you have no business to paint them with your ugly ethnocentric brush!!! There are Northners and Southners, and there are Ashantes and Dagombas. NDC is truly a national party. How else could it win 8 regions out of 10 and NPP won only 2. Greater Accra region especially is a mixed bag and NDC won it clearly. The problem with NPP is the Asante contempt for the other tribes. Too bad Asantes do not know the extent to which they turn off the other tribes. One vote can make a huge difference. Asantes have no idea how much the other tribes are determined to keep them out of power all because of their lack of humility. NPP lost the elections partly because more Ghanaians prefer Mahama over Akufo Addo. Until the NPP folks and the Asantes especially humble themselves, they will continue to lose votes and may languish in opposition forever. The damage may be beyond repairs because there seem to be no end in sight for any change in Asante behavior. The way to win elections is to do so with national appeal as the NDC did and not with only two regions as the NPP did. Consider this fact. Brong Ahafo, Dr. Busia's home region, now votes for NDC. Something is wrong with that picture. NPP should forget about the Supreme Court and start rebuilding now. NDC already has a strong candidate ready for 2016.

I was born and raised in Takoradi and I am a foreigner when i visit my fathers folks. They call me {Gbagitowo}meaning bush man.imagine somebody who lives in Klikor Village calling a city boy a bush man.
There are many ewes in Takoradi who are NPP supporters and many of my family members and my in laws are one.
Kuffuor made in roads in some part of the village of Klikor among the liberal ewes.
When i went to the village in 2002,some of my uncles use to visit Kuffuor in the Village.
Had Akuffo Addo not made the All die be die comments,he would have made inroads in the Villaga and things would have been different.
The biggest mistake he made was not condemning Kennedy Adjepongs comments of killing the ewes and the gas.
There are some liberal Ashanti's who voted for the NDC.
People love the game but they don't like the Captain of the team because of his habits.

The truth can sometimes hurt and that is what is on display here! If the voting pattern in Ghana is anything to go by, then you’ve hit the nail on the head, when you describe NDC as the party of Ewes and Northerners. Similarly NPP can also take the label of party of Asantes and other Akans.
NPP strategy now should be to break the strangle-hold the NDC have over Ewes and Northerners and shed its Akan only image. I know it’s a tall order but it's not impossible.
I am pressed for time, so I can’t elaborate on the point raised above. However, I will return to the subject at another time.

If MAHAMA wants to appoint only Ewes and Northerners, I have no problem with that as long as these people are competent.
My problem here are with people who think this is right but when another party like NPP appoint Asantes or AKANs then it becomes a problem for them.

"Are we ever going to get pass tribalism in Ghana"?
Good question, my friend Komla. This is my personal opinion
As long as we have tribes in Ghana, tribalism will continue to exist. Is tribalism really bad? Not if you look at the definition of tribalism. Having a love for ones tribal grouping is not bad. Do you even know that having a love for the soccer team you support is even deemed as tribalism? Hearts of Oak has a lot of Asante supporters including a childhood friend of mine who is an Asante but hates everything about Kotoko. His love for Hearts is tribalistic but is it bad?
What we mean by tribalism being bad is when we talk about ETHNOCENTRIC Behaviour, hating another group because they are different from your tribal group.
With that said, now to answer your question, I can say that, tribal hate amongst Ghanaians if you base it on what you read in the forum is not reality. Ghanaians by and large live harmoniously among each other. Ghanaians as

The problem we have in Ghana is the issue BOKOR wrote in his article and just dealt with through his own ethnocentric glass.
It is real any criticism of NPP by an Ewe is deemed by some Asantes as an attack on Asantes.
It is also true that any disagreement with an Ndc policy by any AKAN especially Asantes is deemed by Ewes as an attack on the Ewe tribe.
Any opposing view from Rawlings by an Asante like me is deemed by Ewes as hating Ewes.
Now look at how some Northerners are behaving. Any disagreement with MAHAMA is deemed as hating Northerners. What they need to do, and I mean really do is to check their conscience. Are they too ethnocentric and AKAN haters or Asante haters when they disagree with NPP?
I bet you they will say NO but they will not accept it if I say I just hate the Ndc party and not the Ewes and Northerners who support them.

What I deem wrong is when Northerners and Ewes who are less than 30% of Ghanaians have over 70% of all political appointments in Mills government and thought there was nothing wrong with it but still continue to talk about Kuffours government with his mostly AKAN appointees.
I just want Ghanaians not to place too much emphasis on the tribal appointments but to worry about the qualifications of the people and not to complain in future if another government comes and appoint people not from their tribes.
I personally don't give a crap if MAHAMA appointees are 100% Ewes and Northerners. I don't need an Asante appointee to feel good about myself.
