The UN is a complex organisation with different constituencies, interest groups, power blocks etc. I have serious issues with the UN set up and how it functions. I am acutely aware of its gross failings which by the way are on-going! One thing I can assure you though is that from my own reading, I,would rate Kofi Annan's stewardship far better than the current incumbent's. That said, I am interested in reading his account of what you refer to as a "corrupt" organisation. I don't even know the man personally, neither is he my hero, but I believe he has done Ghana proud in rising to such a high office, irreective of the flaws in his own stewardship and that of the organisation. I cannot see why you jump about and think I can be a target of your abuse. I am sorry, if you have your opinions, simply make them and stop attacking,people. This is uncalled for and frankly crass.

You started this with a preemptive sentence that "he would be the first to admit 'mistakes' . . . Are you kidding. It was a horrendous crime--mortal sin in the parlance of religion. And then lob UN unto it.

It was Annan, and Annan alone that shares the responsibility. Why? He was the one entrusted with the responsibility of seeing that no harm was done. He failed that test....and the result...close to a million lost their lives--more than in the Iraq war.

Guess what happened after that colossal failure. He was rewarded with the Secretary of the UN!!!! This is how things are done in our behalf, and you are talking like a teenage school girl in love.

Whose back was Annan protecting when all these slaughter of Africans took place? President Clinton. Who is Africa's most beloved American president aside from our beloved President Obama? Of course Clinton. Fellow Africans, let us not continue to play these games!!!!

You talked about Annan's book becoming a best seller. Bull. You don't even know the trends. If liberal institutions did not buy it in volumes and distribute, he will be lucky if he sold a 1000 copies, and that is if he is a good writer.

That book is already dated. Annan should know that by now. In a few years, Annan himself would be revulsed at the UN, if, God forbid, they are given taxing authority. If that happens, new outrageous ways of doing things will emerge which will disgust even Annan.

And his book will be yesterday news by then.

It might interest you to know that I spent two weeks in Kigali in December 2012 and actually visited the War Memorial and the graves so I have seen for myself what you refer to. I have also just finished reading "A Nation Betrayed" which chronicles all the errors and atrocities in that country including the culpability of the UN and indeed the Clinton administration. Interesting you pick on my firs sentence in respect of Annan. It is precisely because he has admitted elsewhere about his OWN failure in that process. That, among other reasons is why I personally want to read this book to see his personal account and take on the issues. For all you know we are both on the same side on most issues.

BUT, and a very big BUT, you probably know the PERSONAL ROLE OF BOUTROUS BOUTROS GHALI in the whole affair, having been DIRECTLY INVOLVED in Egypt selling arms and munitions to the Habyarimana governent and his attempts to downplay what was going on etc. although Annan has never come out to say what his disagreements were with GHALI (his then BOSS) on these matters, I hope to God he addresses those issues in this book (but I won't hold my breath).

You do not know me, my politics and my standing on issues. Don't be too haste to judge and lump me with others. I am merely a reader and commentator like everyone else. Having said all this, I am sure you will agree with me that despite all his failings, in the world as we know it, Kofi Annan is accomplished and very few in the world (not just Ghana or Africa for that matter) have a resume that compares with his.

My advice to you is, let's have a decent civil and balanced dialogue. I appreciate your frustrations and your emotions and don't know to what extent you were personally affected by what happened in Rwanda, but I was in tears when I visited that country. I was also very hurt and saddened when the story was unfolding and especially angry at the fact that so many died from starvation and disease (subjects in which I have specific expertise) plus the fact that had they listened and taken the e.g. approach currently being adopted on the Central African Republic (whatever one's views on the merits or demerits of that approach) but under UN mandate VII; and if I may add, NOT the approach of the Obama administration on Libya and now on Syria (you may beg to differ), we might have been in a totally different place as far as history is concerned. The lame excuse of the Clinton Administration (because of the US Somali experience) about inaction in Rwanda and their LIES that they did not have the full picture, plus the roles of other security council members including FRANCE AND RUSSIA, not to talk of China supplying Machetes and other weapons are staggering.

I hope we can read Annan's perspectives on some of these and hopefully students of international relations and politics can pick up a few tips.

Finally, I have been following the events and current political impasse in Ghana with interest and am appalled at all the posturing going on on both sides. They continue to make basic and fundamental mistakes which demonstrate immaturity on both sides. Worse of all are the so-called pundits who are using the 'Free Media' to peddle their brand of views which do not help the situation. One such abhorrent writer is Okoampa Ahoofe who thinks it is funny to use the caption "The Road to Kigali" in his series which now stand at I believe 26! He probably does not even know the extent and nature of what happened in that country and has never been there. Note, this is the very first time I have actually let our fellow readers know I have been to Rwanda. BEX, I feel your pain, but I believe the man Annan also has the right to be heard and his overall place in history should be recognised however imperfect. I hope you agree with me on this score. And please desist from attacking me personally as this is wholly uncalled for in these debates. Thank you.
