When I see the totally burned countryside in the dry season, it seems to me the main reasons for deforestation are poaching for "grasscutters" and poor farming practice by slash and burn without prior cutting of even small fire-breaks around the plots. Because it destroys the re-growth by young trees and depletes the soil and groundwater. Both fire-poaching and uncontrolled burning are actually illegal practices, but not being exforced by society and police with the seriousness it would deserve, as these practices will make most of Ghanaian soil infertile for decades.
Alternative Farming methods like "Evergreen Agriculture" and SRI should be taught.
Also of course, Ghana is selling it's irretrievable resources like timber abroad just to pay her debt to the filthy rich and bankers. But that is so in the interest-based system of greed...
