The Sky Train project is in the same category as the National Cathedral project, "White Elephants". These were clearly wasteful projects that were likely designed to fill the pockets of a few individuals. Why misalocate Ghana's scarce funds to a niche form of transport when the primary means of travel for 99% of Ghanaians remain our roads which are in a terrible state of neglect?
Both projects were criminal endeavours designed to siphon off state funds.
Over the last 3 thousand years, no nation has developed without giving top priority to the construction of an excellent network of roads . Even the ancient Romans discovered this vital building block of development.
Building a good road network has a cascade effect making it far easier for the establishment of critical infrastructure and vital services such as Healthcare, Education, Sanitation and safe water supplies. One of the immediate effects of having a good road network is the dramatic severalfold increase in the movement of goods and services resulting in a sharp increase in the wealth and standard of living of ordinary people ( increased trade).
