Emotions ran high as personnel of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) and the Ghana Police Service gathered to pay their last respects to immigration officers who lost their lives in the Hamile dynamite explosion.

In a video shared on X on November 7, 2026, officers were seen rendering their final salute to their fallen colleagues, while others struggled to hold back their tears.

Some personnel also fired gunshots as a mark of honour and a final tribute to the deceased officers.

The officers lost their lives following a dynamite explosion during a border patrol operation at Hamile in the Upper West Region on Tuesday, November 3, 2026.

According to the Ghana Immigration Service, a four-member patrol team had responded to an unusual sound in the area when they intercepted a tricycle carrying a load along an unauthorised route.

The rider reportedly attempted to escape as the officers approached to inspect the contents of the load.

However, the suspected explosives detonated in the process, killing the rider and injuring two immigration officers. One of the injured officers later died from his injuries.

The incident also triggered tensions in the border community, with some residents reportedly attacking immigration installations.

The government subsequently imposed a curfew on Hamile and its surrounding communities to restore calm and maintain security.

The solemn farewell ceremony brought together personnel from the two security agencies to honour their fallen colleagues.
