I do not think the government has to tell people to use their brains. Do you need the government to tell you not to go at high speed when you are within settlements, or when you are driving through schools, when you know schoolchildren are crossing? I sometimes feel that you people are chimpanzees sitting behind the steering wheel; that is why you cannot use the common sense human beings in other countries have. And no wonder you honk your vehicle horns anyhow, and even honk them as a sign of greeting. An American or a European driver doesn't need a sign board that tells him to slow down before he slows down. I have seen the symbol "50" along roads in Ghana here, yet every single driver will drive past the area at 100+ km/h. So the right thing is for you to pay hefty fines for being damned stupid.

Are the zebra crossing signs marked on the roads not meant for drivers to slow down, but do drivers respect them? Do drivers need to be reminded when they are driving through settlements or do you need to be living in an area in order to know that you're driving through a school? Schools are clearly visible to everyone, including strangers. Though the language used used by KTO is nasty, the truth is that most drivers in this country do not value human life, and the right solution is for them to pay heavy fines. Did you see that video showing a driver over speeding with passengers on his vehicle even when the passengers were crying for him to stop for them get off. He nearly collided with an STC bus. Did he need the government to tell him not to do that?

@Ablekuma: The speed limits are meant for settlement areas, not when you are driving through the forest between regions or cities/towns. And I am not saying that roads signs are not needed, but instatlling speed limits boards should not be a pre-fix to the policy being put in place now. In TKO post, he mentioned the "50 km/h" speed limit signs along roads, but no driver respects them, which is true. So what we are saying is that it will not make any difference even if the speed limit signs are instituted first because drivers will ignore them. So why delay for a year or more to fix speed limit signs and sensitize people before? Too many accidents would occur and too many lives would get lost during that period of delay due reskless driving.

They should show us where the road signs have been placed so drivers can know the speed limits they are expected to observe. This is clear extortion and a blatant attempt to steal from the general public.
What evidence will the police present in court to justify that a driver has oversped when there are no road signs anywhere? This is madness and a very stupid agenda.

This is the kind of Journalism we are looking for in our society. This kind of Journalism is not the same as the type that only sit at the radio stations and make noise talking politics. There a lot of things that go wrong in Ghana because there are no committed journalists who want to serve humanity. We have only political journalists who put their interests first. There are things lacking or happening right in front of their noses but they don't see them. Ghana is not developing due to lack of awareness or deliberate ignorance. Those who are supposed to tell the politicians their shortcomings, they themselves are now politicians.
Accra the capital city of Ghana has nothing to celebrate about when it comes to simple beautifications that make a city vibrant. Paving and covered gutters are not yet a civilization known to the Ghanaian town or city manager. Dust is everywhere. Garbage bins, garbage collection and disposal management should not require expatriates to handle. We have towns and city managers who collect huge salaries and benefits.
If they do not do their job who tells them, who shames them?
The media is available. Call it social media. That's what we expect from our journalists who have themselves turned into politicians. Use your profession to enlighten the people, especially the sleeping appointment holders and those who are supposed to be innovators.

Well said Mannaseh. Can is only rushing to put a new wine in an old wine skin. The State of Ghana as usual is only rushing to beautify the streets with cameras with no proper education and road signage. The roads are not even demarcated proper marked. Ghana is 500 years behind the US where roads are properly demarcated and marked with well readable signage.

Granted, large cities have visible road signs and speed limits but that is not the case in rural or suburban areas. You are expected to apply your knowledge even when there is no visible sign.
For example in Ontario, the rule is that if you are driving in a neighbourhood, your maximum speed limit is 50km/h and highway is 120km/h. This is a principle that every driver applies. You don't need bill boards in every corner to tell you to do the right thing.

Checking overspending on the roads will definitely help to reduce vehicular accidents on the toads. However, if all the points raised in Manasseh's write-up have not been met, then the excise needs to be suspended and visible road signs fixed on the roads before implementing the traffic regulation.
The high cost of fuel has already reduced the daily earnings of drivers and they should not be over-burdened with tickets unless the government fixes adequate road signs to guide them.
