The Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Navy hospital ship, Auspicious Ark (Hull 868), has concluded its seven-day humanitarian medical mission in Ghana.
The mission ended with a farewell ceremony at the Tema Port on Friday, October 30, 2026, following a week of free medical services to Ghanaians under China’s Mission Harmony 2026.
During its stay, the medical team aboard the vessel provided a range of services, including general consultations, dental care, eye treatment, dermatological services, cardiovascular examinations, orthopaedic care, physiotherapy, laboratory investigations and surgical procedures.
A total of 5,909 Ghanaians and Chinese nationals living in Ghana received medical attention, both aboard the ship and through outreach activities. The team also performed approximately 40 surgical procedures.
The mission provided an opportunity for professional exchanges between Ghanaian and Chinese medical personnel, with discussions focusing on specialised healthcare delivery, naval medicine and emergency medical response.
The Director of Medical Logistics of the Ghana Armed Forces, Brigadier General Michael Addy, joined other officials at the Tema Port to bid farewell to the crew and wish them fair weather and a safe voyage.
The conclusion of the mission marks another milestone in Ghana-China relations, with the initiative aimed at improving access to healthcare while strengthening medical cooperation and professional collaboration between the two countries.
The Ghana Armed Forces expressed appreciation to the Chinese PLA Navy, the mission commander and the medical team for their dedication, professionalism and contribution to healthcare delivery in Ghana.
