The Government of Ghana has called on authorities in New York to conduct a thorough investigation into the fatal shooting of a 15-year-old Ghanaian boy, Javits Badu Nkansah Frimpong, in the Bronx.

Javits was shot dead at about 9:20 a.m. on Thursday, October 29, 2026, by unidentified assailants while on his way to school, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday, October 30.

The government has extended its condolences to the bereaved family and assured them of its support in seeking justice.

Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa said he had spoken directly with the victim’s father, Thomas Frimpong, and assured him of the government’s commitment to pursuing the case.

“We will pursue justice, and we will make sure that those who did this do not get away with it,” the Minister said.

Ablakwa also conveyed President John Dramani Mahama’s condolences to the family, describing the incident as deeply distressing.

“We are all saddened. We are all distraught. He did not deserve this,” he said.

The Ministry said officials from Ghana’s Permanent Mission in New York had visited the family to express their condolences and convey the government’s solidarity and support.

It added that the Ministry and the Permanent Mission would work with US authorities to pursue justice and provide the family with the necessary legal and consular assistance.

The government has urged relevant authorities in the Bronx to ensure that the circumstances surrounding the killing are thoroughly investigated and those responsible brought to justice.

It reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to the safety, dignity and well-being of its citizens abroad.

The statement also extended thoughts and prayers to the victim’s family, friends and loved ones in the United States and Ghana, particularly his mother, Doris Adu Gyamfi, in Kumasi.
