The National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Titus Glover, has called on chiefs in the Greater Accra Region to advocate for traders whose stalls were demolished at La Pleasure Beach.
His plea follows a demolition exercise carried out by National Security operatives on Friday, October 2, 2026, at the request of Labadi Beach Hotel, which is owned by the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT).
Speaking with Sammie Wiafe on Citi Eyewitness News on Thursday, October 29, Glover urged traditional authorities to engage the President and his appointees over the demolitions, insisting that chiefs must defend their people when decisions threaten their livelihoods.
“The chiefs in Greater Accra must not be mute. They shouldn’t be wearing clothes and attending government functions and all that,” he said.
“This is the time that we, the youth, want to see our chiefs speaking and defending us. They must speak to defend their people. You can’t do this in Ashanti Region. At least, you engage the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, [and explain] the reason why you want to do that,” he added.
Glover questioned the apparent silence of Ga traditional authorities, arguing that chiefs in other parts of the country are consulted and engaged before decisions affecting their communities are implemented.
“But we the Gas, look at how they are treating us,” he said.
He urged Ga chiefs to take a more active role in speaking on issues affecting their people, saying their interventions could carry significant weight.
“So I am really cautioning and appealing that they need to sit up and stand up. At least, when they speak, it goes far,” he added.
