Most of the influential legal personalities that shaped and structured their legal practice were Ghanaians and I am sure this current Chief Justice may be a student of Ghanaian lecturers of the Gambians

GHANA’S CONTRIBUTION TO GAMBIA’S LEGAL SYSTEM
Gambia's judiciary has been heavily dependent on Ghanaian judges since independence - and especially from 1994-2017 under Yahya Jammeh. It was commonwealth technical assistance program.
More than *12 prominent Ghanaian judges* have held senior positions. These are the most documented:
*Chief Justices of The Gambia who were Ghanaian:*
- *Felix Lartey* - Chief Justice 1999-2001. Later Justice of Supreme Court of Ghana 2004-2005
- *Stephen Alan Brobbey* - Chief Justice 31 July 2004 - 6 Feb 2006. Former Justice of Supreme Court of Ghana
- *Mabel Agyemang* - Chief Justice Aug 2013 - Feb 2014. She had first served as High Court Judge in Gambia 2004-2008 (Land, Civil, Commercial, Criminal divisions - 365 cases) then Appeal Court Judge 2010-2013 655348404fc1

- *Jones Dotse* - Supreme Court Judge in The Gambia, before elevation to Supreme Court of Ghana in 2008

*Why so many?*
1. Gambia had very few indigenous lawyers until 1990s
2. Commonwealth Secretariat posted Ghanaian judges as "Expert Judges"
3. Jammeh preferred foreign judges he could dismiss easily - Mabel Agyemang was abruptly removed in Feb 2014 with no official reason, suspected due to her insistence on judicial independence
The total number is over 30 if you include Circuit Judges, Magistrates and DPPs, but at Supreme Court / Chief Justice level, at least *6 Ghanaian judges have been Chief Justice and 8+ have been Supreme Court / Appeal Court Justices*.
