Didn't the government know this before signing it? This is a retrogressive policy to cripple local production. All this talk of China desk at 5he ministry coordinating all these agencies and business groups to raise funds are smoke and screen to hoodwink the people that they're doing something to allay fears of the people. It wont work because we all know signing this tariff free agreement will be lopsided that will benefit the Chinese because there's No Way we can compete with them and this agreement will cripple local production. This government before signing this was forewarned but due to propaganda and the good will the had reposed in them they went ahead and signed and now it has come back to bite them in the ass which invariably affect the nation as a whole.

The trade imbalance isn’t something new, we were importing more from Europe and the USA before China’s abrupt rise. The only way to mitigate this is if all the countries in west Africa come together and use a single currency similar to the EU, it’ll remove a lot of trade barriers and make the block an economic superpower. The goal is to unite the entire African continent but the powers that be will make sure it doesn’t happen, but a united ECOWAS is feasible
