In February 1967, just a year after the overthrow of the Osagyefo, he regretted the incident, confessing to the NLC that, for him, he thought the coup did not serve the intended purpose because for a year, no development was added to what Nkrumah was had started. The NLC saw his comment as a betrayal of trust hence, his death in an abortive coup on 17th of April, 1967. Just a year after Nkumah's overthrow. The opponents of Nkumah named the Accra Airport after him because of his role in Nkrumah's overthrow.

When the imaginary republic of western Togoland comes into being they can name their international airport after him.
