State challenges Court of Appeal order halting Hanan Aludiba, Faiza Seidu trial

The Deputy Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Srem Sai, has indicated that the state has filed an appeal at the Supreme Court challenging the Court of Appeal’s decision to suspend the criminal trial involving Hanan Aludiba and Faiza Seidu.

The appeal follows an order issued by the Court of Appeal on Monday, October 19, 2026, halting proceedings in the case involving the two accused persons.

In a social media update on the progress of the case, Srem Sai explained that the state had approached the Supreme Court because it considers the suspension of a criminal trial over complaints concerning allegations in a charge sheet to be legally unjustified.

He argued that the legal framework does not permit criminal proceedings to be halted solely because an accused person has raised objections to matters contained in the charge sheet.

According to the Deputy Attorney-General, the objections raised by the accused persons had already been considered and dismissed as lacking merit, making the decision to suspend the trial particularly concerning.

Srem Sai warned that allowing the Court of Appeal’s decision to stand could have far-reaching consequences for criminal prosecutions across the country.

He cautioned that such a precedent could create an avenue for accused persons to delay or suspend their trials by filing complaints about allegations or other matters contained in their charge sheets.

The state is therefore seeking the Supreme Court’s intervention to challenge the ruling and address what Srem Sai considers a potentially damaging implication for the administration of criminal justice in Ghana.

The Supreme Court is expected to consider the state’s challenge in accordance with the applicable legal procedures.
