Uganda Airlines enters Ghana aviation market

Ugandan national carrier will operate four flights a week between Entebbe and Accra Ugandan national carrier will operate four flights a week between Entebbe and Accra

Air travellers between Ghana and Uganda could soon enjoy more flight options and potentially lower ticket prices as Uganda Airlines prepares to begin operations in Accra on October 27, 2026.

The Ugandan national carrier will operate four flights a week between Entebbe and Accra, offering promotional return fares to attract passengers.

The move is expected to increase competition among airlines operating between West and East Africa, potentially encouraging other carriers to reduce their fares.

For Ghanaian travellers, the new service will provide another option for business trips, holidays and family visits to Uganda and other East African destinations.

However, any long-term reduction in ticket prices will depend on passenger demand and how competing airlines respond.

The new route could also benefit businesses by making travel between the two countries easier and potentially more affordable. Lower travel costs could encourage more business meetings, trade activities and investment opportunities between Ghana and Uganda.

The service is also expected to support tourism by making it easier for Ghanaians to visit Uganda while giving Ugandan travellers improved access to Ghana’s tourism and business destinations.

Uganda Airlines’ entry comes at a time when African countries are working to improve air connectivity and make travel within the continent more convenient.

Improved air connectivity is also important to the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), which seeks to increase trade and economic cooperation among African countries.
