Former Sports Minister Nii Lante Vanderpuye has criticised the Ghana Football Association (GFA) for allegedly giving excessive attention to the Black Stars while neglecting other national teams and football competitions.

According to him, the current GFA administration gives the senior national team significant attention whenever it is preparing for tournaments or qualifiers, while other teams and competitions do not receive the same level of support.

He argued that this approach does not serve the nation’s broader football interests and suggested that the association’s current priorities do not reflect its mandate.

“The current football association is the Ghana Black Stars Association and not the Ghana Football Association,” he said in an interview with Asempa FM.

The former Member of Parliament for the Odododiodioo Constituency lamented that this approach has sidelined the Ghana Premier League and other domestic competitions, which continue to face challenges.

He further suggested that the situation has contributed to the struggles of traditional powerhouses Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak, warning that their fortunes may not improve in the coming years without significant changes.

“The current football system is affecting clubs like Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak. If we fail to address these issues, there is no way these two clubs will win the league in the next five years,” he added.

Meanwhile, the GFA has faced mounting criticism over the performances of various national teams and their failure to qualify for some continental and international competitions, with calls for its president, Kurt Okraku, to resign.
