A delegation from the Rwanda Mines, Petroleum and Gas Board, led by its Chief Executive Officer, Alice Uwase, has visited the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) to learn about Ghana’s reforms in the gold sector.

The delegation, which was received by GoldBod Chief Executive Officer Sammy Gyamfi, Esq., commended the institution for its efforts to reform gold trading, particularly in licensing, combating smuggling, promoting mineral value addition and protecting the environment.

During the meeting, Gyamfi highlighted GoldBod’s contribution to Ghana’s economy, citing US$10.8 billion in gold export earnings in 2025 and US$11.6 billion as of October 2026.

He stressed the importance of cooperation among African countries and knowledge-sharing to ensure they derive greater benefits from their natural resources.

GoldBod’s Director for Responsible Mining, Professor Ishmael Quaicoo, also outlined initiatives aimed at promoting the formalisation of mining activities, improving access to financing and supporting environmentally responsible gold processing.

The visit provided an opportunity for the Rwandan delegation to learn from Ghana’s experience in gold sector reforms and explore approaches to improving resource management and maximising the economic benefits of mining.
