Ghana will host the African Minerals Policy Forum – Mining in Motion 2026, a three-day summit to strengthen collaboration among African stakeholders and align the continent’s vision for its mineral resources.

The event will be held under the theme, “One Continent, One Voice on Minerals,” with discussions expected to focus on Africa’s mineral policy priorities and opportunities for greater cooperation in developing the continent’s mineral wealth.

Organised by the Ashanti Green Initiative and supported by the Government of Ghana, the summit is expected to provide a platform for policymakers and other stakeholders to exchange perspectives on the future direction of Africa’s minerals sector.

President John Dramani Mahama is listed as the keynote speaker, while His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, King of the Ashanti Kingdom, is the summit’s patron.

Three-day summit in Accra

Mining in Motion 2026 will take place from October 19 to 21, with the first two days scheduled for Destiny Arena in Accra. Proceedings on the final day, October 21, will be held at the Mövenpick Ambassador Hotel, also in Accra.

The summit’s central theme places unity and collaboration at the heart of discussions about Africa’s mineral resources.

With the focus on a common continental voice, the forum seeks to encourage stakeholders to identify shared priorities and consider how closer cooperation can contribute to the development of the minerals sector.

The discussions come amid ongoing conversations about how African countries can strengthen their collective position in the global minerals industry while pursuing their individual national development priorities.

Building on the inaugural edition

The 2026 summit follows the inaugural edition held in Accra in 2025, which attracted more than 600 participants from over 30 countries.

According to the organisers, the first edition also brought together eight global institutions in a neutral forum.

These included the African Union, the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), the African Minerals Development Centre, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), the World Bank, the African Development Bank, the World Gold Council and the London Bullion Market Association (LBMA).

Artisanal and small-scale mining emerged as a key policy priority during the inaugural forum, with discussions covering licensing frameworks, mercury-free processing, traceability and the protection of livelihoods.

These issues reflect some of the important considerations surrounding mineral development in Africa, including responsible mining practices, economic opportunities and the livelihoods of communities that depend on the sector.

The 2026 edition offers another opportunity to continue these conversations and explore areas where greater alignment among African stakeholders could support shared mineral development objectives.

A common vision for Africa’s mineral future

The theme, “One Continent, One Voice on Minerals,” highlights the importance of cooperation in shaping the future of Africa’s mineral resources.

The forum is expected to provide an opportunity for stakeholders to discuss common policy priorities, exchange ideas and consider how African countries can work together on issues affecting the sector.

However, translating a shared vision into practical outcomes will depend on the discussions, commitments and follow-up actions that emerge from the gathering.

As preparations continue, Mining in Motion 2026 is expected to bring renewed attention to the role of collaboration in shaping Africa’s mineral policy direction.
