President John Dramani Mahama has said that although he lost hope and nearly quit politics after leaving office, he was encouraged to contest the presidency again by a pastor based in the Ahafo Region.
He made this known during a visit to Prophet Thomas Iddrisu's church during his recent Resetting Ghana Agenda Tour in the Region.
Recounting the prophet’s role in his political journey, the president said Prophet Idrissu encouraged him at a time when he was considering stepping away from politics after his previous tenure in government.

“He is one of the prophets who encouraged me to contest the presidency again because when I left government, I lost hope. But he encouraged me and told me God wasn’t done with me. He told me that I would be elected president again,” Mahama said.
The president described Prophet Idrissu as a friend and brother, acknowledging the encouragement he received from him during that period.
Mahama served as president from 2012 to 2017 before returning to office after winning the 2024 presidential election.
