A few examples.
Activists in Atronsu including cocoa farmers have consistently campaigned against illegal mining and tried to protect their landscape and Nana Atronsu stream, their source of water. Five activists were arrested on Farmers Day 2 years ago for allegedly damaging excavators. We had the trumped up charges dropped on 17th July 2026.
Jema in the Aowin municipality has rejected all forms of mining and embraced Cooperative Farming thanks to their visionary Chief Nana Enoku Annor II, Father JB and JAGA (Jema Anti Galamsey Advocacy). They have protected their rainforest and water bodies but are under intense pressure.
Gwira Youth are campaigning to protect Draw River Forest Reserve from mining and need support.
The Peasant Farmers Association informs us that over 2.5 million Ghanaians are at risk of losing their livelihood as a consequence of irresponsible mining.
Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital states that the number of kidney disease cases has gone up four times.
This is no joking matter.
