Ghanaian authorities have released footage of a joint operation with international law enforcement partners, including the UK’s National Crime Agency (NCA) and the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), which led to the arrest of 128 people in a major crackdown on cybercrime.

The footage shows the moment officers stormed the suspects’ hideouts, catching them by surprise.

The operation followed intelligence received on August 26, 2026, that apartments at Ubuntu Haven Estate in Kpone Katamanso, Franko Estate in Ga North, and other locations in Ga West were being used as bases for organised cybercrime, including romance scams.

The suspects, who were seated behind laptops and chatting with their targets on social media platforms such as Facebook, were rounded up by the officers and handcuffed.

The footage also shows people believed to be victims of human trafficking who were allegedly brought to Ghana and forced to take part in the scams. Some appeared to have scars on their bodies, which looked like marks from beatings with canes.

According to the Cyber Security Authority (CSA), the operation, known as “Operation Cyber Hunt” or “Operation Blackout”, was planned and carried out under Ghana’s laws and institutions.

The operation also uncovered nearly US$10 million in losses linked to 89 victims. More than 130 people were arrested or detained, while over 300 electronic devices were seized.

Of those detained, eight were suspected masterminds behind the operation, while 120 people believed to have been trafficked and forced into online fraud activities were rescued.

Items seized included 136 mobile phones, 130 laptops, internet connection devices, four vehicles and other digital equipment. One of the vehicles was reported to have been stolen from Canada.

The search team also recovered jewellery and 10 Nigerian passports.

The CSA said authorities were working to return the rescued victims, most of whom were identified as Nigerians, to their home country. Investigations into the suspects and the seized devices are ongoing.
