Upon their arrival, the delegation was welcomed with a cultural performance by dancers and drummers and invited to perform some traditional dance moves as part of efforts to excite them and immerse them in Ghanaian culture.
Officials of the Ghana Boxing Federation (GBF), including First Vice President Adams Addy Nii, Treasurer Mustapha Nettey, Joojo Ephson and others, were present to welcome them.
A delegate of the Detroit Golden Gloves, Ansel Stewart, indicated that she was delighted to have come to a country that has produced two of her favourite boxers and expressed hope that they could host the Black Bombers in the future to strengthen the partnership.
“I'm the delegate for the Detroit Golden Gloves, and it's a pleasure to be here in Ghana, in the hometown of two of my favourite fighters, Bazooka and the Professor. So it's a pleasure to be here. I hope we have a good day on Saturday.
“It's a cultural exchange. You know, we have kids from Detroit and boxing kids from Accra, Ghana. So, you know, it's a pleasure. It's going to be a wonderful thing, and I hope that's something that we can continue to do and move forward. Hopefully, we can get you guys to come to Detroit, and we can show you the same hospitality that you show us here so far,” she told the media.
Another official of the team, Katealia Chambers, indicated that she was happy to return to her roots and was looking forward to giving their boxers a different experience.
“Our first expectation is to soak up the city. This is the motherland. So to come back, for me personally, my roots, I want to soak up all that. But then again, it's for the boxers. It's to give them a different experience, a different style of boxing, to experience the culture. I mean, look how you guys welcome us. So just to get back to the motherland, I'm here to soak it all in. Of course, my boxers want the experience, and now we're here in Ghana to get that experience,” he noted.
