Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Chairman Freddie Blay has described the actions of the ‘Ghana Jollof’ social media account, whose operator has been declared wanted by the Ghana Police Service, as “making contributions.”

Speaking in a JoyNews interview, Blay, who appeared to back Ghana Jollof, said he understands why she has taken her position, particularly in response to what he described as attacks by US-based Ghanaian social commentator, Kevin Taylor.

“I believe the Jollof woman that you're talking about has great popularity or notoriety if you want to name it. She lives outside. A very intelligent woman who is making contributions,” he said.

He argued that the woman’s actions should be understood in the context of her claim that the government has supported Kevin Taylor despite his attacks on people in the opposition, traditional leaders, churches and the courts.

“It's not a question of my support. It's a good reason for her to say what she's doing. It justifies it by saying that the government has been supporting Kevin Taylor for some of the outrageous accusations and insults that he raised more on the people in the opposition and traditional heads, churches and courts,” he argued.

Blay also accused Taylor of making false claims about his son, including an allegation that he had given Taylor $40,000.

He rejected the allegation, describing it as a fabrication.

“Indeed, he started talking about my son, he has insulted my son. I'm talking about Kevin Taylor accusing him that he's given him $40,000 without any iota of substance. Lies. Fabricated,” he stated.

Blay said while he did not support some of the responses to Taylor, he understood why some people would choose to respond strongly to his comments.

“I don't even know why he did that but if you do so, and some other people also take you on, I'm not saying the details are good and pleasant. I will not go to that extent, but sometimes you want to treat people who are in the gutter. Descend with them into the gutter,” he said.
