Private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu has revived the long-running Alfred Agbesi Woyome judgment debt case, questioning why the state is pursuing financial claims against Manhyia South MP, Baffour Awuah, while an outstanding debt owed by Woyome remains unresolved.
Speaking on TV3’s The Key Points, Kpebu called on the Attorney-General to provide an update on efforts to recover the money from Woyome and also account for developments surrounding the Saglemi Housing Project.
“Woyome still owes us money, so those going after Baffour, bring up the Woyome matter. How much does he owe? Please, Attorney General, and then the Saglemi matter. They said they will investigate, let’s see that, how much is owed,” he said.
He stressed that efforts to recover public funds should be applied consistently, urging the government to pursue outstanding monies in other cases while investigating the allegations against the Manhyia South MP.
“Let’s get an update, because as you go after the money here, go after the money there too. Saglemi and Woyome, let’s hear the updates on what’s happening,” he indicated.
The Woyome case dates back to the payment of GH¢51.2 million to businessman Alfred Woyome as judgment debt.
In 2014, the Supreme Court ordered him to refund the full amount to the state after ruling that the payment was unconstitutional.

The state subsequently initiated several recovery efforts, including the sale of some of Woyome’s properties and the garnisheeing of funds in his bank accounts.
Reports in 2023 indicated that about GH¢18.52 million had been recovered, leaving an outstanding balance of approximately GH¢32.77 million.
The recovery has remained a subject of public debate, with calls for the state to intensify efforts to retrieve the outstanding amount.
Kpebu has previously called on the Attorney-General to take steps to recover the remaining debt, arguing that the money could be used to address pressing national needs.
His latest comments also touch on the Saglemi Housing Project, which became embroiled in controversy over alleged financial irregularities and the failure to deliver the expected number of housing units despite significant public expenditure.
Kpebu’s comments come amid legal and investigative proceedings involving Baffour Awuah, who is facing scrutiny over alleged financial offences.
