The Ghana Women’s Movement has taken to the streets to protest the continued detention of Salomey Awiti Baffoe, a 40-year-old Senior Nursing Officer from Techiman, who has been accused of abetting the publication of false news.

Baffoe’s case is linked to the Ghana Jollof TikTok account, which has been accused of publishing false news.

Nurse remanded for two weeks over alleged ties with 'Ghana Jollof' account

The demonstration, dubbed “Women’s Voices Matter,” is being staged in Accra on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, with protesters carrying placards bearing inscriptions including “Madam Veep, Speak Up Against Abuse of Women” and “Free Salomey.”

The protesters also chanted “Free Salomey! Free Salomey!” and “John Mahama, We Are Tired of You” as they marched.

They have accused the Minister of Gender and Social Protection for failing to protect the rights of the remanded nurse.

" We are asking? Where is the fairness in this, we are asking for intimidation and unlawful arrest and perversion of the law to cease," Advisor on Gender and Social Protection to Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Akosua Manu stated.

Meanwhile, an Accra court has refused an application for bail filed on behalf of Salomey Baffoe after the prosecution opposed her release, arguing that she is still needed to assist with ongoing investigations.

In its ruling on Thursday, September 24, 2026, the court said the investigation is cyber-related and that releasing the accused at this stage presents a real risk of interference with witnesses.

Hearing continues on September 30, 2026.
