The Deputy Director-General of the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC), Twum Barimah, has fumed over what he described as false allegations by Assin South MP Rev. John Ntim Fordjour concerning recent drug busts.
He clarified that the alleged 73 parcels of cocaine, which the reverend minister claimed were detected in the Netherlands, were, in fact, seized in Ghana.
He said this was done through thorough inspections by officials at the airport.

“Now, he mentioned that 73 parcels of cocaine left this country for the Netherlands. It's also false. Those 73 parcels of cocaine were arrested here. It was never arrested in the Netherlands. Don't say things that you don't even have information about. It's not right,” he said on newsfile, aired on JoyNews.
Twum Barimah further lambasted the Ranking Member on Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee for questioning his competence and allegedly denigrating his image.
He cautioned the MP to desist from making what he described as false allegations or remain silent if he cannot substantiate his claims, which he said undermine their efforts to combat the menace.
“I made a statement here that you went on Adom TV to attack me; you heard him attacking me personally that I have colluded with the people to get these drugs out of town. What evidence do you have? He singled you out personally. That's the worst point. He mentioned that I'm the most incompetent person that the president has ever appointed.
"You are talking about competence, as if we didn't see you being deputy minister here in this country. I mean, what is this? I don't want us to be going there, but these things have to be ironed out. I won't take this from anybody,” he added.
The Deputy Director-General of NACOC assured the public that his outfit is fully committed to dealing with drug-related issues and would not allow itself to be compromised.
“As an agency and as individuals within the agency, we will continue to do our best to protect the image of the country. Under no circumstances would the current leadership of the Narcotics Control Commission ever be compromised. It will never happen,” he added.
