After the British formed the "West African Frontier Forces", to fight Nazi Germany, and through which we have the current military what is actual use of the military that always see recruitment? Look at all the "Retiring Generals" and I dare anyone of them to tell me the war he took part to warrant the rank of a "General"?
They are in the barracks 24/7 then shamelessly get promoted without firing a rifle.

We don't throw pearls before a swine
You probably wouldn't comprehend and appreciate what pelicles wants to put across, even though most often than not,his (pelicles) comments are driven largely by his love for the inglorious conglomerate of thieves and nation wreckers party called the npp. This time round he made a sound observation. The supposed pseudo generals of the extremely corrupt Ghana Armed Forces knows next to nothing concerning COMBAT. They're largely simply SQUARE PECKS in round holes and a waste of resources and time. What they know best is to preside over soldiers with a laise of colonial mindset that the soldiers are their slaves as was the case in the colonial era. Every commissioned officer is first indoctrinated at the academy to think this way. Next They're though to steal in concealment as there is no accountability whatsoever in the Ghana Armed Forces. They preside over units and loot the unit resources with impunity and handover an empty account to the next commanding officer (CO) who continues the bare face stealing and the process in recycled over and over again. They procure the very last grades of military accoutrements, ranging from substandard weapons to not fit for purpose kumasi-made psuedo combat boots. The list of their crimes are inexhaustible. As these very highly corrupt pseudo Brigadier Generals are retiring, they're unfortunately retiring on their salaries, what this means is that even as they're on pension and contributing ZILCH to the good of Ghana and the Ghana Armed Forces, they receive the same salary as if they're still in active service. So for example if he's earning ghc20,000 per month,he still earns the same amount on retirement, that's sickening isn't it? Additionally he goes home with a cook,a driver,a 'batsman' etc who're all serving soldiers. It's a sad spectacle in the Ghana Armed Forces. Unfortunately no body knows about the CRIMINALITY going on quietly in the Armed Forces for decades.

Pericles or whatever you called yourself, I think you are very myopic when it comes to military operations. One of the Generals was my mate and we took part in Operation Octopus when the mandate of ECOMOG was changed from Peacekeeping to Peace Enforcement, we fought from Shiefling to Buchanan and guess what, you think we did the fighting by shouting? We also took part in UNAMIL I and stayed throughout during the genocide committed by the Hutus against the Tutsis and you think it was a simple spectacle? Please be informed before you come out to display your ignorance on the net. Shalom

Stop the tomfoolery! In all that they were hiding behind the backs of non commission officer (soldiers) as they COMMISSION OFFICERS are at the rear of their platoons as in platoon formations pretending to be giving commands. Listen to me,what is currently sustaining the PONZI SCHEME called the Ghana Armed Forces is the supposed discipline and the unawareness of the citizenry, but like all things under the sun, nothing will last forever,Soldiers will be emboldened to speak up about the inhumane treatments they receive from commission officer and the corruption with impunity currently going on under cover in the Army.

OUR MILITARY CAN ONLY BULLY CIVILIANS
Anytime our military are called upon to help deal with civil unrest, all they do is mercilessly brutalise civilians, e.g. Ashaiman and many other communities recently. But when they are sent abroad for similar UN duties, they will go to the extreme extent of handling the civilians there with so much care and respect as if they are vulnerable toddlers! But they will unleash unimaginable brutality to Ghanaians and you wonder if they give a thought to the fact that they are dealing with their fellow Ghanaians.
To me they should scrap the army and leave only the police, after there is no chance in a trillion times trillion that Ghana will face a war situation.

I lived at Weija Barracks so, trust me, I know a lot about the military. During those days, recruiting wasn't that hectic like it is today, but my uncle advised us not to join the military.

@ Pelicles. You seem to have a jaundice view of the military's purpose. Just because the army hasn't fought a war since the days of the Royal West African Frontier Force, the country doesn't need the military. Mind you the generals that you disparaged didn't just one day up and became generals. They came through the ranks to reach their positions. The military in case you didn't know, protects the country's borders, citizens, and sovereignty from foreign aggression, they maintain a strong, visible force to discourage potential adversaries from launching an attack. The military provides emergency response, logistics and heavy equipment during major natural disasters or humanitarian crises. Additionally, the military support international allies.

When was the last time the Ghanaian soldier fought a war to save the nation from foreign invasion? When the Ghanaian soldier stages a coup, that is what they get a medal on their breast.

Just the honour of the parade is enough for our gallant generals. If anybody wants to donate cash then it should be back door and even not announced. Branding of GAF is important. If its 500k each then yes let the announcement go out. Not a battery $2000
