President John Dramani Mahama has stated that he has developed a “crocodile skin” to insults directed at his personality.

According to him, he does not bother about people insulting him because he has been subjected to insults for many years and has developed a thick skin to such attacks.

Speaking during a town hall meeting with the Ghanaian community in the Tri-State Area of the United States of America, President Mahama noted that the nature of insults hurled at people through new media platforms, especially TikTok, is worrying and does not augur well for the nation as a whole.

He therefore called for security agencies to take action against individuals who use such platforms to hurl abusive and offensive remarks at others.

He added that he does not have a problem with people expressing their opinions if they are prepared to take responsibility for their actions. However, he expressed concern that some people hide behind anonymous accounts and use all kinds of offensive words against others.

“Even if you don't want to watch it, sometimes you want to open something else and then it will cut in. And, as usual, Ghanaians, we have also taken it to a new level.

“Insults, I don't mind if people show their face and own what they are saying. But there are some who are hiding, and they just put something there and, behind it, they say the most vile things.

“As a leader, I don't mind being insulted. I have been insulted, I was vilified, I was voted out of office.

“So, me, this skin is crocodile skin. So, if you insult me, I don't mind. You insult me, I don't mind.

“And indeed, I'm doing what I can for my country and my continent. I'm doing what I can for Ghana and Africa and I will do what is right,” he said.
