Skipper of the Black Stars, Jordan Ayew, has reportedly withdrawn from Ghana’s squad for the September-October international window.

Ayew was named in Carlos Queiroz’s 24-man squad for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Côte d’Ivoire and The Gambia on September 24 and 29, 2026, respectively.

However, reports indicate that the captain has opted out of the squad as he continues to manage a groin injury.

His withdrawal adds to a growing list of availability concerns facing Queiroz ahead of his first competitive assignments since returning as Black Stars head coach.

Mohammed Kudus had earlier opted out of the squad to continue his recovery and regain full fitness with Tottenham Hotspur following a lengthy injury lay-off.
The GFA has also announced additional players, including Antoine Semenyo, after medical uncertainties emerged within the original squad.

Ayew’s absence is particularly significant given his status as captain and one of the senior figures in the team.

Ghana opened camp in Accra on Monday, September 21, 2026, with Queiroz beginning preparations for the trip to Bouaké to face Côte d’Ivoire before returning home to meet The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The Black Stars are already dealing with several changes to the squad, with the GFA bringing in nine additional players following concerns over the availability of some members of the original selection.
