The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Ahafo Ano South West in the Ashanti Region, Abubakar Sedik, has died after attending a series of official meetings in Kumasi on Sunday, September 20, 2026.

Abu Sedik was among a group of DCEs who met the Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Mahama Ayariga, at the Kumasi Kejetia Phase II project site on Sunday.

The stakeholders’ meeting with Kumasi Central Market trader unions ended at about 5:00 p.m., after which Hon. Sedik and some of the other DCEs proceeded to the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council for another meeting with the minister later in the evening.

According to the account provided, Sedik was returning to his district after the meeting when he complained of severe pain in his heart. He subsequently died on Sunday evening.

The cause of death has been reported as a heart attack, although official medical confirmation was not immediately available.

The death of Sedik is expected to be a significant loss to the Ahafo Ano South West District and the wider local government administration in the Ashanti Region.
