Residents of Gindabour in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District of the Savannah Region have reportedly fled the community following a police operation to arrest persons linked to the killing of General Constable Redeemer Owusu.

Footage circulating on social media shows parts of the community virtually deserted as police intensify their search for suspects.

General Constable Owusu was killed during an attack on police officers in Gindabour on September 16, 2026, following the death of a local teacher, Seidu Abu, after an encounter with police officers.

The incident triggered tensions in the community, with reports of properties being vandalised and residents fleeing the area.

The Ghana Police Service subsequently deployed investigators, intelligence officers and reinforcement teams to Gindabour to assist with investigations and restore calm.

At least 43 suspects were later arraigned before the Buipe Magistrate Court in connection with the death of the police officer.

They face charges including murder and abetment of the murder of a public officer.

The latest footage captures the deserted state of parts of Gindabour as security operations continue.
