What started as a routine highway patrol ended in the disaster and loss of the lives of two individuals, including a police officer.

On the fateful day of September 16, 2026, General Constable Redeemer Owusu was attacked and brutally beaten to death by an angry mob which had accused him and his colleagues of being involved in the death of a motorbike rider.

Constable Owusu was on duty with other officers along the Gindabour to Kenkyen community road when they encountered a motorbike rider who, upon seeing the police vehicle, suddenly diverted into the bush, raising suspicion.

The officers followed from a different direction and found the rider unconscious on a bush road.

They picked him up and began conveying him to a hospital for medical attention.

However, the rider died while he was being transported to the hospital.

The death allegedly triggered an angry reaction from some residents, who gathered a mob and attacked the police officers at Gindabour in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District of the Savannah Region.

Constable Owusu was savagely beaten till his last breath during the attack, while other officers sustained varying degrees of injuries.

The police vehicle was also damaged.

The bodies of Constable Owusu and the motorbike rider have since been conveyed to the Damongo Mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
