President John Dramani Mahama will on Monday, September 14, 2026, preside over the formal handover of a 175.6-kilometre right-of-way cleared by engineers of the Ghana Armed Forces to the government of Ghana at Kwaso, near Ejisu.

The handover is expected to mark a major step towards the construction of the 198.7-kilometre Accra-Kumasi Expressway, one of the government’s flagship infrastructure projects.

In road construction, a right-of-way refers to the total width of land legally acquired and reserved for the construction, operation, maintenance and future expansion of a road or highway.

The clearance of the right-of-way by the Ghana Armed Forces is expected to pave the way for the next phase of work on the proposed expressway, which is intended to improve connectivity between Accra and Kumasi.

The project has been described as the single largest capital investment by any government in the history of Ghana, underscoring its significance to the country’s transport infrastructure and broader economic development.
