Head coach of the Gambia national team, Jonathan McKinstry, has announced his preliminary squad as the team prepares to face Ghana in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

The Black Stars will lock horns with The Scorpions at the Accra Sports Stadium on September 29, 2026, in what is expected to be a tough encounter.

With only a few weeks to the game, McKinstry has named a 35-man preliminary squad from which the final selection will be made.

The goalkeepers include Omar Baboucarr Gaye, Sheikh Sibi, and Ebrima Jajrju.
Among the defenders are Omar Colley, Yaya Bojang, Tijan Sonha, and others.

The midfield options feature Ebou Adams, Baubakar Barry, Mouhamadou Drammeh, Mahmudu Bajo, and Saidou Khan, among others.

In attack, Gambia boast several choices, including Suleman Camara, Musa Barrow, Mfansu Njie, Musa Juwara, Adama Sidibeh, and Alassana Jatta.

Coach McKinstry is expected to closely monitor the performances of these players before finalizing his squad for the qualifiers.

Gambia are drawn in Group C of the 2027 AFCON qualifiers alongside Ghana, Côte d’Ivoire, and Somalia. The top two teams will gain automatic qualification to the tournament, while the others fight for survival.

The Scorpions are determined to secure qualification as part of their broader ambition to strengthen their sporting ecosystem and establish themselves as a force on the continent.
