A 52-year-old anti-illegal mining campaigner and spiritualist, Baba Ibrahim, popularly known as Alhaji Nagode, has been found dead in what is suspected to be a suicide at Assin Amoabeng, a suburb of Nyankumase Ahenkuro in the Assin South District of the Central Region.

According to his 14-year-old daughter, the incident occurred at about 6:40 a.m. on Monday, September 7, 2026.

The teenager said her father asked her to take her younger sibling to school before returning home to collect money to buy food.

She said she returned about 30 minutes later and found her father hanging by a rope around his neck.

She raised an alarm, attracting community members who came to her assistance.

Alhaji Nagode was a farmer and spiritualist who was also actively involved in campaigns against illegal mining, which he said posed threats to the environment.

The circumstances surrounding his death have not been officially established, and police investigations are expected to determine what happened.

His daughter also disclosed that her father was involved in a court case with a man in the community. The case was reportedly scheduled to be heard on Monday.

The deceased was a father of seven children, the youngest of whom is said to be five years old.

Although he was no longer living with his wife, his daughter said the family had been left shocked by his sudden death.

Assembly Member for the area, Ekow Sadique Aidoo, confirmed the incident and said it had been reported to the police.
